Being a Kraut myself I can only but thank the Poles, Brits and whoever else stopped them 65 years ago. I would not be here now, at least not doing what i am doing now.

When I came to the UK 18 years ago I made every effort I could not to think german and to fit in with the Brits way of life. The main thing was to speak your language. Because you then spoke back to me. Rather than looking for fellow coutrymen i was accepted into enlish circles. My son learned to speak German right from the beginning but we always spoke in English in front of english poeple! The result is total integration. He feels English now and speaks English without an accent. Even supports the England Team. I would like to think we maintained the British culture that way, dispite of being foreign. And that is a good thing.
The point of all this is that many foreign workers appear in this country in large groups. They have no need to learn the language because they have their peers to relate to. They are supplied with interpreters and have no need to speak to anybody English. So the Enlish do not speak to them and the result is mistrust from both sides. Who can honestly say to have made an effort to speak to a group of Poles, Russians or Bulgarians? I know I haven’t. Only ever spoke to individuals who had been over here for a long time.
    Sad really.
Maybe there is still a chance that the next generation grows up like my son and thinks and lives the British way. At least there is no religious barrier.
    Ever the optimist!

Next time watch it on Eurosport. I was allowed to watch the 125, GP, 250 and Motocross live today, the full races. Who needs the BBC? Mind you, all that television can blur you vision a bit. Bloody good though.

    Better late than never.
They usually restrict by narrowing the inlet, just like they do here. Wouldn’t be worth doing any more. But check the jets in the carbs as well.

    Hi Scouser
You said it yourself! A Billion poeple give a toss. And if you sre an Atheist as you claim, Why does it bother you what matie did in the past. At least he put it on his C.V. I’m sure not to be proud of. On the other hand I must agree: What a waste of precious television time! Just a name would have been enough. And I hate to think what the enviromentalists have to say to all that black smoke.
    Take care

Agree 100%. The frame to power ratio used to be almost criminal at times. I also remember a test in a German motorbike magazine in the early 80’s where they measured the frames of all the big Japanese bikes at the time and found all of them so twisted and out of line that they were condemmed as unsafe. These were all from brand new bikes, strait from the shops! Just shows how little attention was paid to this part of the bike at the time.

    Just wondered:
Which carriers are the best? Which look the best? Asda, Tesco, M&S or Harrods for class?

My first time off road was on a Yam DT50! What a joke! Next I tried my brother in laws Kramer 250 Moto Cross bike. Didn’t even make it down the start straight. Later on to an XT250, very solid in straight line and very light, easily outrunning big brother XT500. Then on XT550. Rear shock kept overheating which slowed you down no end

Everbody seriously involved in electric model flying will tell you not to touch trickle chargers. These boys rely heavily on the top condition of their batteries and use only chargers that discharge and trickle charge in cycles and to different levels every time. Batteries have a habit of developing a ” memory “. Meaning, that when a battery is charged from a certain level to a certain level too often it will after a while only take this ammount of charge regardless of the charging time or charge level at the start. Most owners of cordless power tools will know this phenomena. Allthough the batteries are not completely flat they will be recharged, usually on a trickle charger. Do this twenty times and the batteries do not last as long as at the beginning. Run them down completely and charge them for as long as you like they will only last a fraction of the time, due to the ” memory ” they have developed. Only cure is one of the model boys’ chargers which cost real dosh or the occational discharge with a light bulb and a top up charge.
One could also cosider a timer switch set to come on at different times to vary the charging time and at the weekend put on a bulb to completely empty the battery. Too much hustle? Think of the battery life you gain.

    Hi,
need to do the works. Total strip, powdercoating chassis, rebore, new piston, new camchain, new plastics, new paint job, new brake disc, new exhaust, bigger oilcooler, oil thermostat, check the dreadded fifth gear sprocket, bigger oil pump……..! Sounds worse than it is. Parts are no problem at all. If I can’t get them here I can get them from Germany. Loads of XT’s still about there. They also got an excellent forum at http://www.xt600.de. Any XTlers out there have a look.
    Safe ride
