The Americans always seem to get the best tuning bits first.

The Triumph would almost certainly fail emissions testing now, the cat. has been removed illegally, I guess you would have to say.

But until they get rid of the lorries, buses, vans and coaches churning out smoke by the bucketful I am not going to worry overly.

    Cheers!

What you can now get for these (from USA) is a full exhaust system, which also gets rid of the restrictive cat. converter at the same time, a new free-flow air filter and a re-programme for the fuel injection.
123 bhp has become 142 bhp, but the flat spot (there for noise testing) has gone so it feels like it has put on more power than it has. The torque also climbed by 18 lbs ft, again useful with a heavy vehicle.
The bike has fantastic traction from the new sticky back tyre, it’s huge width helping it stay with my old GSXR1000 from 0-90, at which point the barn door aerodynamics kick in and the 1000 waltzes off into another county.
But anything below 100 and in-gear performance is very quick, a BMW M3 being despatched with ease yesterday from a start and also from 30-ish.

Firstly, you are hardly going to do an oil change before you ride the thing home!

Secondly, it was the only offer the guy got, so the market place decides these days. I cannot fathom deliberately wrecking the engine of your pride and joy simply because you have sold it.

Incidentally, the repair bill for the engine will be £1500.

Right now, I would say a 2.3 litre triple with a free-breathing exhaust system, but that would be a little biased! (The new pipes do sound rather good though).

The scream of a 6-pot Honda CBX with a 6 into 1 takes some beating, (I have an early, non-faired one with a Yoshimura exhaust).

My RG500 Gamma sounded pretty good at 10,000 rpm (square-four two-stroke tuned by Stan Stephens).

Brighton to Norwich on a Puch Maxi at 25mph (max) in mostly thunder and lightning, in 1973.
The 200 mile journey took me 14 hours.
But did it on under 2 gallons of pre-mix petrol.

Bikeless? Huh? It was a Bandit 1200 I fell off, remember!

    Wasn’t even mine.

True, but I was doing ‘only’ 85 and getting the weight off the front may have been the answer, followed by heavy braking?

I have recently seen an indicated 200 mph, on a disused RAF runway a car club had hired for the day, (they allowed me to infiltrate for 2 runs, kind sirs). It wobbled at 185 and I thought I was going down again. The scary thing is how a tiny lean at that speed sends you way off course.

Bike is a write-off because of the cost of spares and the naff-all value of a bandit.

I should haver changed down and opened her up to get weight off the front wheel, on reflection, at a guess. I just panicked and shut the throttle.

I have heard, 3rd or 4th hand, that his fine was paid and a few quid on top, too, by a newspaper, but his 3 points will stand.

It’ll do 95/120/140/165/180/200; in the gears.

Not bad for £9K and £2K mods.

    Have it, supercar drivers!

    It felt very, very quick.

It is the equivalent of covering the length of the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff EVERY SECOND at that speed.

I overtook a German guy on a ZX6-R who was doing about 120 and he said later when we caught up for a natter, that I came past as if he was standing still and the noise as I went by scared the pants off him.
I was doing about 11,000rpm in 5th at the time, not even in top yet!

Saw an indicated 200 mph in the north of the Island, whatever that is in real terms. It felt ‘kin fast, I tell yer!

(2005 GSXR1000, full Akrapovic system, k and n air filter, re-map, 167 bhp at the rear wheel).

    Had a 5-mile ding-dong with a guy in a Aston Martin DB9.
    Murdered him!
30-150 or so was no contest!
