As a shift worker, I need my own transport to get me to/from work in the hours outside of public transport (AND, being a train driver, I sometimes HAVE to be at work at 4am, so I can get my train ready to get the 9 to 5 mob to work!).
I work a 24 week roster, that has different start/finish times, for most of it, and also gives different work days/days off, week by week. In respect of this, we have a job where a driver signs on for duty at 8.25am. Even on my bike, no matter how early I leave home for work (20 miles), I am often a few minutes late during school days, but oh, bliss of all blisses, on a school holiday day when on that particular job, I often have time to have a cuppa before even getting my bag out of my locker, even without allowing any ‘extra’ time to get there. Sooo, anything that can stop the daily school run is totally welcomed by me! I’d also make most, if not all sales reps travel by public transport too-you know the ones, they have their suits dangling on a hanger, in the back of their (company) cars!
And to finalise, I’d shoot anyone I saw using a mobile fone when driving, that would free the gridlocked roads up a helluva lot, methinx!!!

My first bike was a Suzuki B120, back in 1975. This had a chain fully enclosed by a chain cover, so I just needed to apply oil about every six weeks, or so.
Over the years, I have had all kinds of different bikes, and one of the things I used to do long before chain wax (or sticky oil) in spray cans, was to apply grease to the chain, with the aid of an old toothbrush (only prob was, rear wheel was a bugger to clean at times-especially with spoked wheels!!!, but this method seemed to me to be the best way to prevent ‘dry spots’ on chains).
when I got my latest bike 15 months ago, I got a Scott oiler fitted to it. I find that once this gadget has got all of the chain lubricated, I turn the setting down to around 2, or 3, which then helps prevent oil from flinging all over the place-not that much got flung about, anyway.

I dunno about the A2, but I absolutely hate the A1, it is such a shite road! I much prefer the A19.
Seriously though, Matty, best of luck with the test, but please, answer me one question………..why is it timed to happen at 1.33????????????

Yep, I do indeed drive trains, but only when I’m at work [xx(][:D][xx(]
I work for GNER, and drive anywhere on the East Coast Main Line, from Newcastle down to London, or up to either Inverness, or Aberdeen (the Scottish trips are overnighters, staying in a hotel).

Having my own ‘style’ and ‘method’ of driving, developed over almost 30 years, I am a very reluctant passenger on either bikes, OR in cars (back seat driver syndrome?).
I’d often be thinking, “I’d have braked a bit sooner”, or “I wouldn’t have took that corner as fast”, etc etc etc. So therefore, I guess the answer has to be no, I don’t like being a pillion passenger.

I also absolutely HATE having anyone as a passenger on my bike, whether they are bikers themselves, or not.

I have had bikes for 28 years, and have always used my lights. Since I got my GS500E a year ago, I now have no choice, as there is no on/off switch, the lights come on as soon as ignition switched on…..This to me can only be a good thing, it helps if you’re the forgetful type!

    ID
Thanx for that info. I guess that the person who bought Super Yob from Dave Hill must have eventually sold it on to the shop that you bought it from? His name was Marco, and was the guitarist in Adam and the Ants.

Hope the garage gig went well!!

    Wow ID!!
I have a question to ask re you obtaining Mr Hills’ Super Yob guitar….
I am pretty sure we have never met, but would I be right in thinking your first name may start with ‘M’, and that you once played in a group that had several hits in the 80’s? If not, did you buy the yobbish guitar from that man, perhaps?

As for this colour, the reason I prefer to use it is because it is my fave. However, if anyone is able to add say, a nice lighter shade such as lilac, I’d gladly use that!

Just got home from seeing Magnum at Wolverhampton last night, my second fave band did a great gig, as ever!

And now, as it’s Saturday night, I’m off out to the drinking dens of Ashington, yippeee!!!

Alnwick is 15-20 miles North of Morpeth.
And, not only is Alnwick a famous market town in it’s own right, the castle there is also the setting for the Hogwarts school, in the bloody Harry Potter filums!

I am a railway enthusiast, NOT a train spotter! However, as I drive trains for a living (it pays for my beer, and petrol!!!), I can, and must admit to being a train spotter spotter!!! (see loads of em when I at work!).
