The competition level bikes of the 50’s and 60’s were pretty awesome though…check out these reviews of Red Marley, an event held here in Worcestershire

I suspect it has had a rather more interesting life than many of it’s cousins!
RadarModeratorGreat piece Pete, wasn’t your old man a star…good to put some meat on the bones of your ‘back-story’. You have shared a lot of your adventures on here over the years and your posts are always popular.
Right best get scribbling on mine!
My dad did the most amazing self sacrifice and I didn’t even know he was doing it. His act of getting me on 2 wheels shaped me into the (good) man I am today. And yeah that is subjective, but I look around me and yes, compared to the folk even in my street, I am a good man.
Even if sometimes I am not, my dad should be proud of how he brought me up!I have to agree Pete to be fair.

Be great to see you. The lads at Naked Speed and Raw Steel Choppers are clever lads! Plus other people will be helping on the day!
You Guzzi build is awesome too Pete, I couldn’t have done to a new(ish) bike like you have!
February 2, 2017 at 11:18 pm in reply to: This is tempting….cheap way into gentle green laning… #69533RadarModeratorThat was a little flame that lit in the back of my head, but think my idea would be a flop, with the current fad in “scramblers” what about a classic supermoto? grab an old school enduro bike and fit trick suspenders, brakes and wheels?
…. the light was quickly diminished though as basically the old time scramblers were just lightened road bikes with knobbly tyres so they wouldn’t transcend into a supermoto very well.
All the modern “scramblers” are still heavy road bikes, just with pseudo off road pretensions so would be horrid as a sumo
Interesting thought though Pete
You are right about the ‘factory’ scramblers too, the Triumph model looks the dogs, but it is a heavy old thing

That is the plan…it will be a challenge, but it will be fun too.

The clossic stuff fits me fine, just modern stuff is a problem
RadarModeratorYears ahead of their time — launched in 1988, before the term Supermoto had even been coined!
January 30, 2017 at 11:41 pm in reply to: This is tempting….cheap way into gentle green laning… #69528RadarModeratoraye but still a lot shorter than the current KTM enduro bikes! and it does have soft suspension
Fair point.
I do fancy a dirt bike though and so much of the new stuff is simply too tall for me
RadarModeratorDoes he work at Kwik Fit?
He applied but was over qualified apparently….
January 29, 2017 at 7:40 pm in reply to: This is tempting….cheap way into gentle green laning… #69526RadarModerator….. or even better a Kawasaki KMX 200, they are lots of fun!
Might be back to the old seat height problem again!
RadarModeratorthanks mate, yeah they actually sound amazing on the recording too, I edited it wearing headphones and the stereo seems to work too which I didn’t think would be a thing!
LOL, yeah Crawley is full of scumbags, I have no idea if those were some of them tbh or just enduro riders but we don’t have any green lanes so I think the conclusion jumped to is correct! :@
I will probs not ride it again now until the rear is sorted but it seemed criminal not to test it with the sun out to play!Looking forward to the next stage, will have to get it and the 550 together and go racing from cafe to cafe somewhere. Maybe a trip to the Ace Cafe…I have never been there
