Hi Radar, I would love a CBX, i never hold it up though lol, would have to have a chauffer :P

    My 400/4, the story continues:

Well the electronic ignition has been fitted and doesn’t it make a difference so really pleased I went with that, but there has still been a few running issues.

Last Saturday I had half a day off work and went up to see Jaimo with my new Float Valve needles. He took the carbs off the bike and together we put in the new valves, yes I actually got my hands dirty lol, I really enjoyed it and now know how the carbs work. On removing the old float valves they were full of crap, one being totally blocked, with paint and rust out of the tank.

I brought the tank home and I managed to clean out the tank and took it back on Tuesday night. I did it with petrol and nuts and bolts in the tank and swilled it out 5 times. The tank was put back on the bike and after letting the petrol settle, we started her up, first time the choke has worked properly, she sounded lovely firing on all four cylinders. The only problem was No 2 carb was leaking a bit of petrol from the overflow pipe again. Jaimo is waiting for a good dry day to take her out and see how she goes, so hopefully she will be ok to come home soon.

I’m really enjoying getting hands on with my bike, need to invest in a boiler suit now lol.

    :) :) :)

Thanks Radar, look forward to that.

The bikes having a few teething issues,  mainly when Jaimo that’s the guy who’s finishing the bike for me, takes it for a spin, when the engine is hot and at a junction he has to really rev it to pull away. On checking the points they seem to have a white film on them like if a spark plug runs abit lean. The carbs have also been playing up, so they’ve been stripped again and the jets double checked and the floats, they’ve been set up by a strobe, I did have them ultrasonic cleaned last year..

I have asked him to put an inline filter on as the float bowls did have some crap in them, the tanks so old and when I bought it, they had respayed it but got paint in the tank, along with some rust. I’m hoping the filter will help.

I have googled David Silver and they do an electronic ignition for just over £100 so I’m going up later tonight to have a chat about it.

So looking forward to having it back but got to make sure everything is spot on before I ride her.

Thanks guys, well she passed the MOT, is now Insured and Taxed, just waiting for the better weather, still a few teething problems, with running issues but hoping to rectify, I’m thinking of changing to an electronic ignition.

    Thanks Radar.

I have been using David Silver for parts for my bike, can be expensive, was hoping to pick up an old rack and maybe have it rechromed, I’ll keep looking , thanks. ;)

    Hi,

I bought the bike last year after a senior moment, when I got it home  I decided to do a complete restoration as a lot of the things weren’t right after it was converted from a cafe racer, and the engine had got 56K on the clock.

It’s with a guy in Hartlebury, just had a new wiring loom fitted, so hoping to have it back for the spring and riding it.

Its been a long haul especially trying to source parts
