    That back end looks loooong to me Ben. Am I missing something?

    Nope. Tis the r1 seat that I had before. Everyones said it’s long bit I don’t see why. This months issue of SF has got a bandit 6 with the same seat unit and it doesn’t look long. So his swingarm must be longer. It would sit a bit closer when the seat is forced around the tank but not a great deal. All I can do is build my own subframe which to be fair I was going to anyway. Then I can shorten it and weld it directly onto the frame.

    Good to see the progress continuing ben. LR has having some issues with the turbo, but the bike is running apparently…he gave me a little update when we bumped into him on Ryan’s Ride

    Hehe if only I could have made it. Saved lots of pennies then. But as I say watch this closely…I have some 6082-T6 on it’s way to my end mill and after a couple of hours locked away in the workshop we may have some shiny stuff to bolt onto the bandit :D

    I know these updates aren’t very interesting but things happen slowly and as the editor in SF mag quite rightly said ” you can work all bloody weekend on it and, come Sunday night when you step back and take a look at what you acheived, it looks the b@stard same”. That is the harsh unfortunate truth as it would turn out. So the tiddly updates will have to do.

    Anyone who’s tinkered with a duke single sider will know it’s a bit of a pain to slot it into anything other than a duke. One reason being the shock mounts on top of the arm not the bottom like alot of jap stuff and the other being the different sized bearings in either side of the pivot point.

    Standard bandit spindle dia: 20mm, left side of duke arm bearing inner dia: 25mm. Right side 23mm. This does present a problem. First plan was too machine some stainless top hats to sleeve the bearings down to 20mm. STATUS: Epic fail! Wall thickness was too little.

    Next idea. Buy a stainless bar at 25mm and machine one side down to 23mm. STATUS: waste of time.

    Final idea. 25mm bar again. Cut it to fit inside the frame bosses. Tap both sides inside. And bolt it from the outside. Thus acting like a stress-member as the bandit had as standard. But still we have a problem with the bearings being a different size. Answer….knock one bearing out. Remove the gay little ally insert and bob the bearing back in the other side and there we have it. Both sides at 25mm to accept a big ass spindle/stress member. Simple yet effective. Took ages to work it out :$

    1) tape measure.

    2) lump hammer.

    3) chisel.

    4) flat blade screwdriver.

    5) grinding/cutting discs.
