Yes agree with Radar and ID, I’m not up to speed on legislation, it USED to be the case that if fitted equipment must work, thats why you would have to remove the rear indicators. Trials bikes USED to be road legal without lights (a speedometer HAD to be fitted and working – they were fitted straight onto the engine cases and nowhere near your line of sight!) Have searched the net on your question and cannot find any information. Its a `Construction and Use` issue. STOP PRESS found the definitive legislation…..

I read it that Front Position Lamps MUST be fitted. So best not use the ZX without one.

October 21, 2008 at 2:42 pm #56160BigBenParticipantcheers for all the info guys.. dont worry though i managed to get the headlight and indicators to stay on summat like..even thought they wer literally cable tied on. they didnt fall off or show any sign of falling off and i was doing 125mph for most of sunday.
i rang my local kwak dealer today to price up a headlight…came back at 411 quid..haha i really dont think so, ebay it is.
had a really good ride on sunday, went out with my wingman on his VFR400 and my mum, hahaha.
my kwaks getting a full makeover before next summer just to let you know, it might not look the same as it did but you never know..
thanks again for all the infoOctober 24, 2008 at 9:29 pm #56161RadarModeratorGlad you got sorted (in a way!), look forward to following the progress of the next rebuild
October 25, 2008 at 1:12 pm #56162BigBenParticipantand what a rebuild it should be..i wont be modded the bike this year but by sort of early spring im aiming for:
possibly!! not deffinitly, a dry nitrous kit adding 50bhp on the button.
and a more likely modification, im going to convert the side-slung exhaust to twin underseat exhausts. i think thatll look the nuts but will have to try it for size.October 30, 2008 at 2:12 pm #56163RadarModeratorSounds interesting Ben, keep us opdated on how you decide to go
October 30, 2008 at 3:06 pm #56164BigBenParticipantjust to mention, SORN’d the bike today. i figured if it aint right whats the point in wasting money, cancelled insurance too. i hate insurance compnaies..waste of space.
found the exhausts im going to put on.
measured the bore of the link pipes and i think a pair of underseats from an 2005 R1(i think, the one with the triangle back light) would fit, obviously subject to a link pipe being made up. theres one small problem though..on most underseat bikes thers a cutout in the swingarm for the linkpipe to go through from the downpipes to the endcans. as the kwak isnt originally underseat equipped then it presents a challenge..im not changing the swingarm for the 2006 model one as i just think it looks crap. so im going to take the pipe out the normal way (to the right hand side) and phase it up on the outside of the swingarm to go behind the rear peg hanger.thts the only real way i can think of doing it..anyone got any suggestions? good thing i suppose bout doing it that way is if it looks naff i can just put it back to standard and i havnt lost anything.im also going to bolt the cans straight through the seat on rubber pads to stop them vibrating but also on quick release dowls+R clips..so it will only take a minute or so to whip the cans off for cleaning.October 30, 2008 at 3:27 pm #56165RadarModeratorForum memeber Sid has converted a XJR1300 to underseat pipes:

He might be worth sending a PM to in order to get a few pointers

October 30, 2008 at 6:21 pm #56167BigBenParticipantcheers radar,im liking the look of tht XJR cept i think what i propose might be a bit harder as mine has a single rear shock in the middle of the swinger. but i aint sure..links and pictures are always welcomed. i dont think i have as much engineering skill at that guy anyway.
and also thanking katana thats exactly the way i was going to do it..in that pic it comes out the side runs up the back of the footpeg hanger, except i think the people that designed that kit should have used shorter cans cos it looks a little bit daft. ill have to get the measuring tape out.
ive just come back out of the garage..ive just made a footpeg hanger minus the exhaust bracket so i still have pegs without the unused bracket..its a bit crap but sos the bike:P haha
i might even waste a bit of space and put a pic up of it:))November 3, 2008 at 12:42 pm #56168RadarModeratorIt would of looked better with shorter cans, but the approach looks right
November 8, 2008 at 3:11 pm #56169BigBenParticipantrighty..does anyone know of any companies that will bend me a bit of pipe and weld some of them spring hooks on for me? needs to be done properly really.
im going to buy the exhausts next year, mount them first to the seat, then work the pipe from there just so i get them in the right place then make the pipes to fit.i can get a Y-piece then just need a pipe from the Y to the exit on the downpipes.would prefer the pipe in titanium but i will settle for stainless. cheers guysNovember 8, 2008 at 3:15 pm #56170BigBenParticipantwhy do i always forget to put something in my post:@
does anyone know where i can buy flat carbon fibre plate from??
im going to make a set of heatshields for the new zorst..taNovember 8, 2008 at 7:26 pm #56171ChampsParticipantI have a mate, Ben, that custom builds choppers, based in Redditch. I am sure if you hand him some cash he will do any works you need. Will dig his number out if you want it.
Alternatively, here’s his site
November 9, 2008 at 6:01 pm #56172BigBenParticipantcheers for the link champs, the phone number is on the website so when i finally get round to doing it i may give them a shout..
has anyone also got any opinions on how im going to measure out the angles that i want the pipe to be bent to?
one option is attach a pipe to the exit on the downpipes, then weld straight sections together to get it where i want it then work out the angles…surely there must be an easier way. the bike cannot be transported so i need to work it all out somehow
