Ah yes, have now found the official apology:-

He appears genuinely taken aback! The words “I apologise” ARE in his response.

A contra blog has now been issued by another Mirror Journelist Graham Brough :-
https://blogs.mirror.co.uk/cars-motorbikes/2010/03/wootton-bassett-ride-out-the-b.html
Im a nutshell ….
Chris Hughes our war correspondent – one of the most decent blokes I know – was taken aback by the ferocity of the responses he got from bikers after he had a poke at the event in his Mirror blog.He asked me, as a biker, what my take on it was and if I thought he was wrong.
So I had to put him right on a few things.
I told him I could see his logic in spotting that fund-raising often follows the lines of people’s hobbies like running or cycling for charity. But he was missing the point.
To his credit, he listened and immediately started writing a response to his biker critics.
TT07ParticipantWell did any of us get to take part? I bow my head in shame and admit when I visited the appropriate web site I had missed the registration deadline (security checks had to made on all being admitted to the RAF base). Well done ALL who took part, what a way to show support for our troops and what a coupe to promote us bikers in such a positive manner.
TT07ParticipantHelmet cam by any chance? I bet the bike was outside waiting for you!!! I held my breath, with you, as every staple was removed. Nice kind nurse wasn’t she.
TT07ParticipantI too donned mine over the weekend and likewise only did approximately 25 miles. Upon pulling the microfleece over my head I thought Christ this is tight around the neck, where as fitment on length and waist and arm length was just right for me. I too went for my textile jacket (having closed the zip-ip vents as it hadn’t been worn since Autumn) and under the whole lot I did wear my 2 piece long-johns.
Stopping for a coffee, I considered how I would be feeling if I were wearing what I normally do, and realised that I WOULD BE a cold, but wearing the microfleece I definately was not. I normally wear a Hein Gericke neck tube, but this is not necessary with the microfleece and if I were to rate a neck tube for warmth it would be say 4/10 against wearing nothing where as the microfleece would get a full 10 as no wind at all gets through, and as I considered why I was so warm around the neck I realised that as well as the material type its also the tightness that I experienced when putting it on that stops any wind travelling down your neck.
Well done CGR, I like the product and know of someone who will shortly be ordering possibly one with a zipped neck (zip-top) from you.
TT07ParticipantMy first impression was you’d had a zip sewn in, as they’d allowed you to keep the plate should you have cause to re-use it! (You did mention trying to retain it). To be honest, so long as its only a whopping great scar that your left with, then thats a job well done.
TT07ParticipantI joined up several weeks ago having been pointed in that sites direction from the company producing the PS3 game “Heavy Rain”, since then I now get unsolicitated mail from “Ladies” from the far East wishing to meet me. Previous to joining, my main e-mail address was virtually spam free, so as a result,I am not too amused.
