Will be going down to the Avignon area and then across to Grenoble in May.
Using a 750cc Honda Africa Twin whilst there.
(Flying out).Just for a week, alas, but is always good down there.
NSXParticipantI think will be of interest !
NSXParticipantYes, it is 576cc, single cylinder four-stroke, kickstart only and just 112kg dry weight, the same as most 125cc road bikes.
It has been fettled to produce a little more power, 62bhp at the rear wheel and though it is now slightly weak, straight off idle, (huge aftermarket carb. to blame there), it is very strong from 2000rpm onwards, with a real kick in th butt around 3200rpm.
It is geared to ‘max out’ at 115mph, to make the acceleration even more devastating, because I am not worried about top speed on a bike anymore.
NSXParticipantThanks for that ![]
NSXParticipantWho are you on the car forum again ?
NSXParticipantGreat. I just wish I did not have to log-in before every single action or whatever.
Twelve times I had to log-in yesterday !
[:0]NSXParticipantRemember though, that 55mph is history in most states now.
65 is the norm, at least where I have been over the last few years.
NSXParticipantI have rented, (expensive), but now I use a friend’s bikes, who lives there.
He has Ducati 998R and Suzuki Hyabusa as well as 2 home-built, radical Supermotos.
For those of you interested, there are thousands of miles of sunny biking roads in California, the best being Angeles Crest Highway 2, an amazing mix of fast and slow bends and a few straights where silly speeds are posted.
Lattigo Canyon is another favourite, twisty and difficult to master.Highway 1, the coast road, is less frantic, but simply beautiful and Route 166 is where I saw an indicated 202 mph (don’t know what the genuine speed was), a lonely desert road north of los Angeles.
That felt FAAST!
Avoid the summer, too hot. Go in April, May, October, November.
NSXParticipantThis was in 1979 !
It was the first 1000cc model with chain drive.Someone MAY have tampered with it, at the pub that night, but I don’t know.
Just left to right lock, so vicious that it broke the lock stops and threw me down the road.
I was very lucky, because although everything I wore was scrap, I was unhurt, bar road rash, but the bike wore through the crankcases and spilled all it’s oil, bringing down two bikes following me.
The pillion of one bike, a Norton Commando, broke his leg badly in being stopped from 60 mph in 3 inches by my bike…poor sod…NSXParticipantThe A82 in the Scottish Highlands is beautiful, as is Angeles Crest in California.
NSXParticipantAce of Spades !
