    Hey all,
Just a quick message to say sorry I’ve had to drop out of this – was really excited about it but cant afford it with recent outgoings of a new boiler, speeding fine and remedial work on the tintop! :(

Will follow your progress and look forward to the write-up. Hopefully see you over the summer as plan to spend some time on the bike this year.

    Cheers,

    Atif

    To paraphrase Muhammed Ali….

I’ll beat you so bad you’ll need a shoehorn to put your helmet on.

But you are right, I dont think everyone will be keen on a 700mile one day stint.

We would be hard pressed to do Folkestone to Tarbes in a day.

A stop half way would get us to Tarbes Sunday afternoon

    Wimp!  :P

I recall us doing Luxembourg to Birmingham in one day!

Sorry not been replying much… Christmas with the in-laws and then came down with Labyrinthitis.

I dont mind Scotland, Switzerland or still looking at Pyrenees but going through France (we would need to do a long stint for 2 days in total which I’m happy to do).

I’ve looked at the figures that Champs has put up and going through France could be even cheaper…

Fuel  for 670 miles (one way) @ £1.30 per litre (based on 40 mpg) = £98.99

Hotel for Friday night near Folkestone = £24.00

    Ferry (return) = £36.00

Hotel for Friday night in Calais = £26.50

    Total = £185.49 return

Compare this to just the ferry crossing price to Santander and Bilboa which is double the price.

    Plan would be:
Travel down to Folkestone on Friday 21st
    Ferry across on Sat 22nd
Travel through France on Sat 22nd
Stay at Tarbes on Sat 22nd
Arrive at base camp on Sun 23rd

Leave base camp on Fri 28th
Stay somewhere near Calais on Fri 28th
    Ferry back on Sat 29th

The above gives almost 5 days in Pyreenes. What do people think?

a bit closer for Champs to travel.

    Always thinking of others! :)

Only takes me 15mins to get to Kiddi  and would save me having to clean the house so definitely thinking of you matey!  :P  ;)

Forget the curry, it’s too rushed between arriving at the house then going on from there

How about we order a couple of pizzas and sit down with a laptop and a map and iron a solid plan out

I agree with this approach. Leave the ladies at home and sort this out ASAP. Happy to host it this time if people like and that way a bit closer for Champs to travel.

    How about the following:

Route Portsmouth to Bilbao Bilbao to Portsmouth
    Departure Sun 23 Jun 2013 22:30 Tue 2 Jul 2013 10:30
    Arrival Tue 25 Jun 2013 07:45 Wed 3 Jul 2013 09:15

£1338 = £223 each but again, does not include any cabins. The only other thing is that it means having to book an extra 2 days off work.

Edit: with cabins, it comes to £1758 = £293 each

Champs – this is what mine was.
