    why was the triumph engine the preffered power unit for featherbed frame specials. Wasn`t the Norton engine that good, or for that matter BSA, AJS/Matchless etc

    i think it was more that the norton featherbed frame was better than the triumphs

    The triumph engine was easier to tune, lighter and more powerful. The Norton featherbed frame was the the best handling so the Triton was a combination of the best engine and frame availible at the time. Other combinations were also popular Norvin, NorBSA TriBSA etc, but it was the Triton that was generally accepted as the best.
