Gijon centre looks very well kept and a complete contrast of buildings to its sea front.

…. not enough Guzzis on the road
That’s true.
imperialdataKeymasterWell I was looking at cars with bigger rear seats and that really limited the choice. BMW M5 made sense – gorgeous V10 engine with lots of grunt and 5 good seats. Was really struggling with the £500 yearly tax and 18mpg though (if you’re lucky). Also, because it has more seat space I would use it more for family things so that means more trips to the fuel pumps.
Enter the BMW 535D M Sport. Yes, it’s a diesel but it’s a stunningly capable twin turbo engine that means it’s only a half second slower than the M5 to 60 (5.3 seconds), has 313BHP, a whopping 600NM of torque and does 51 mpg. Oh, and did I mention the £140 road tax?
Just bought one and I’m very impressed so far, will let you know how I get on.
imperialdataKeymasterCar is now sold.
imperialdataKeymasterThat looks great, glad you had a good time. Where are the oil drums and VW beetles you were going to ride over then?
July 25, 2014 at 8:05 am in reply to: First Ariel bike in almost 50 years is made in Somerset (BBC) #68030imperialdataKeymasterLooks a very nice bike. I hope they do well and keeping it small to start with (150 bikes per year production) might just help them. They also have some modern pedigree with the Ariel Atom known worldwide for quality and performance.

The CBX sellers have this retro styled Norton in their showroom too:
imperialdataKeymasterWow, that’s a Rover under there isn’t it?
imperialdataKeymasterSeriously SneakyPete… is that yours? Looks a beauty
imperialdataKeymasterNice, I’d like to see that!
imperialdataKeymasterGreat stuff!
imperialdataKeymasterNice idea, I think the MX-5 lends itself well to a bike engine as they all had small engines and were quite light. I had an early 1.6 that was a hoot to drive, brilliant handling and a fantastic ‘shotbolt’ gearbox.
July 15, 2014 at 8:51 am in reply to: Spain 2014 – Days 1 to 3: Showers, to Sunshine to Snowline! #67995imperialdataKeymasterYep, top stuff. Your pics made me remember the stunning scenery and especially the brilliant biking roads around the Picos and Asturias/Cantabria.
If you have a spare 5 minutes and haven’t been there, take a look at Google’s Street View on that AS114 or the AS264 here:
imperialdataKeymasterLol, I get the feeling that there will be an engine and front suspension leaving the rest of the car behind at some point.
