Gix, you miss the point though.
I was looking for examples where people on smaller/lesser bikes have really surprised those on much faster (they thought) machinery.
Rather like when i lived in the USA, i built several ‘sleepers’ which beat other cars of much bigger name and size.GSXR1000ParticipantIt reminds me of the brand new Honda CB750KZ i had, back in 1979. This is a rarely-seen bike nowadays, brought out just before the better-known CB900F and probably the first mass-produced bike with 16-valves, i would reckon.
(?).Anyway, the back end slid badly on a couple of bends and i knew something was up. As i limped home, the back slid again, riding into the driveway, but i just assumed it was the light night rain we were seeing.
The following morning and all was revealed.
Where i park my bike was just a sea of 10W40.
The bike had been on it’s side stand and most of the engine oil had emerged from behind the countershaft sprocket. A real mess to clean up or what!Honda soon made the necessary recall and the bike was fixed under warranty, as were quite a few others affected in the same way.
Nice bike, really well made and quick for a heavy and quiet 750.
GSXR1000Participant31 years.
Passed it on a ‘Supermoped’ (minus the pedals in order to get a proper licence).
GSXR1000ParticipantYou seem interested.
I only live an hour away, come out for a spin and see what you think.GSXR1000Participantquote:

Mazda RX-8.What mods you done to get 450 bhp out of it then?
Full, high-performance, larger diameter exhaust system, complete with ultra high-flow cats, latest available re-map just done, K and N air filter, low-drag Redline engine and gearbox oil. (The gearbox oil was almost £100 alone).
The recent rolling road test showed 443bhp and 430lbs/ft.
GSXR1000ParticipantAs it was a serious fault they could have at least explained what they had done and whether other owners should be concerned or not.
I see what you are saying, but mere silence is unacceptable, at least imo.GSXR1000ParticipantOriginally posted by sid

Had a Speedfight 100 already!
GSXR1000ParticipantAgreed, but there’s a few mags around to cater for that market anyway!
GSXR1000ParticipantGetting a (road) trike for hire may be a whole lot trickier.
Not sure about that one.
GSXR1000ParticipantTrue, but a lot of it IS accurate and makes good reading.
It has for a long time been uncool to like MCN but there’s some great tests and articles there, especially the last few months.
ALL sensationalist drivel? No way, you are way off target there, Gix.
GSXR1000ParticipantYou’re missing out on a lot of good bike stories and articles then Gix.
GSXR1000ParticipantInevitably, we will talk about other things from time to time, agreed.
GSXR1000ParticipantA hell of a lot.
Currently a 450bhp/180mph Monaro VXR.
Mazda RX-8.GSXR1000ParticipantEven with 94 bikes, it works out at over ten thousand miles per bike, on average.
Got attached to many a bike, but experiencing every type of motorcycle imaginable was and is my aim.
GSXR1000ParticipantDo what i often do and hire a bike when you get there. It is a shed-load less hassle and probably cheaper.
Do a search for a rental firm in the area you want, but there are 3 in the LA area alone.
Last time i rented, i got a 1200 Bandit for 2 weeks.
