Great strategy!
I might do the same with my in-laws – leave a bike at Thumper’s…. Oh, he is my in-law… and I could just use one of his… Even better!
elessimoParticipantGot to do Hardknott/Wrynose Passes though. We rent a cottage on Ullswater now and again, but an off-road bike is necessary to reach it…..
That off road is not merely a want, it is clearly essential!!
Hmmm…rumbled… Got a new mate (ex-motocrosser) who’s looking to get back to biking – going cold turkey after 6 months off. He’s looking out for one for me…

elessimoParticipantI left Thumper ordering your tickets.
6am Liverpool outward (sun 7th); 7am to Heysham return (fri 12th). All the better sailings booked out: cancellations will be rare,,,,,
elessimoParticipantSounds good – there might be a fully-fledged Forest branch by then to swell the numbers…. Anywhere in Wales is good for us.
elessimoParticipantDrives nicely on our country lanes, but I got told off for getting it dirty….. No pleasing some people.
Just got the provisional IoM ferry tickets for TT 2015 – what a palaver! Can’t get a bike on the kayak though, so no choice….
elessimoParticipantThat’s what happens when you dawdle…..
Hope his Mum doesn’t see this…..
elessimoParticipantYes, pleased with the TDM – just about to add a pair of Rox Risers to get a bit more control up that driveway. Come down and check it out for yourself next time Radar & Thumper do a Forest blast!
elessimoParticipantLooks a good project for next year….
elessimoParticipantThanks to ses310 and imperialdata – I’ve cracked the photo thing and retrospectively added a couple of photos to the Tintern report.
Radar, we’ll visit as soon as we get a free, dry weekend….
elessimoParticipantBlessed with a sunny day that was actually warm, we met up in Lydney and downed the first coffee of the day. Jed had chosen his matt black Triumph Storm over the Harley: a good choice as there were several versions of American iron on show but only one other Triumph cruiser – a 2300cc chrome monster.
Apparently Gloucestershire Constabulary were remarkably laid back about the thought of over 100 bikes blasting through the countryside but the Gwent plod were not happy and warned that they would be out in force, so we set out in groups of 10, separated by a couple of minutes (theoretically).
Jed and I were in the first group, accompanied by an old Ariel 500 that sounded great but couldn’t quite keep up with the pack leader. So halfway to Chepstow we split off and had a quick blast to clear the cobwebs, catching the leader before Tidenham. On the way out of Chepstow the ‘Charlies Ride’ directions showed a sharp left hand turn towards Usk – Jed went barrelling straight on, apparently thinking that the leader and I were turning off for petrol at a non-existent garage. Already needing the loo, I had no hesitation in abandoning my mate and staying in the lead group of three, trusting Jed to notice what had happened and catch us up.
After overtaking several riders on sportsbikes (“went around them on the bends’) Jed did nearly catch us up, and took the piss-taking with good grace.
After a relaxed 30 minutes at the Steel Horse cafe we set out on a tour of twisty but picturesque B-roads, taking in Abergavenny, the Skirrid, St Arvans and Chepstow again before landing at the Woolaston Inn at 2.30pm where a good salad barbecue and a couple of pints of roasted barley went down well.
In summary, it was a very well organised run with signs or marshals at most junctions and a superb route through the Anglo-Welsh countryside: hopefully loads of money was raised for 5 year old Charlie…
elessimoParticipantFollow this link elessimo it explains how to upload pics
Thanks, ses, will do so this weekend, time willing….
elessimoParticipantA Lambo wouldn’t make it down our drive…..
Can’t upload pics – tried today:
Or is it ‘drag & drop’?
elessimoParticipantAmazingly both bike & rider unscathed. Rather him than me though…
Got a new concrete slab at the very top to replace the flat potholed track and the deep trench between the upper sloped concrete strips has been filled, so it is much better than it was.
But until I excavate the grassy/mossy strip between our steep concrete strips it will still remain tricky in the wet. And that’s not going to happen soon…..
After all, that would kill off my genuine requirement for a wet-weather supermoto to keep the TDM company….One day……
elessimoParticipantThe memory of my petite wife in an XXL jacket still makes me laugh….
Warm, but not particularly cool…..
