Lovely ride out, country roads only to Stratford via Malvern & Pershore.
Being us, we rolled up at 1.30pm to find that it closes at 4pm: we charged around and chatted to Graham Field (2x 15,000mile trips on a P reg KLR650) and a guy (Townie vs the World) about to set off on a 2-year RTW trip on an ancient CB500.
Then we murdered a Buffalo Burger each and sampled Severn Cider’s wares (brewed in Awre, in the Forest), discussed 4×4 exploring in Peru (2016!) and solar powered charging.
We’re really tempted to camp there next time: lots of good folk to chat to, with some interesting products. CCM were conspicuous by their absence (I did want to try out a GP450) but could have left early…
Graham Field with his hero….
KLR650
Old but tough…
All sorts of stuff going on
Refreshments…..
Top dollar stuff represented too…
but check out this CB500… Great panniers
Yes, that is a cutlery tray headlight grill
And what a great integral table! He even had a shower rigged up (albeit with a pretty small head – like a kind of windscreen-washer jet).
This was really RTW on the cheap!
Well i needed to oil my chain so I did a bit of green-laning (well, green-fielding)….
RTW here I come!Well worth the visit if you’re a travel-freak like me and Debs…..
elessimoParticipantAdventure Overland Show being held at the Stratford Upon Avon race ground that weekend: I’ll be turning up on the TDM with Debs as ballast on the Sunday. Saturday is checking out Manchester Uni with the boy….
Worth seeing what touring equipment we can justify for a short visit to Brittany next year. I suppose 12V hairdrier & collapsible portapotti are on the cards…..

elessimoParticipantThe ‘mystery’ meet next Wednesday is at The Red Lion at Wainlodes, on the riverbank.
Radar, I’ll post next year when the meets start up again so you can come down for our northerly ones – Pershore, Fladbury, etc.

elessimoParticipantWorth knowing though….
I suppose the only answer is to just buy bikes, never sell them…….
elessimoParticipantNorthleach bikernite tomorrow: wrong side of the tracks for me, but there’s a ‘mystery pub’ on the 17th so I might be up for that…..
Almost hope for clouds though – my commute home last night (Tewkesbury-Ledbury-Ross-Lydbrook) was unusually horrible: due west from 6pm onwards, straight into the blinding low sun on a country tree-lined route, alternating strobes and black holes. No sun visor: my sunglasses didn’t help.
Could’ve hit an artic without knowing it was there……elessimoParticipantCheltenham bikernite had a good turnout – very warm night and dry:
ran into an old mate Mike King who turned up on his 18 year old Triumph Adventure:
Saw my next bike (don’t mention it to Debs):
Lovely z1000 with what looked like a Gixer engine:
and a couple of beautiful customs:
As usual, some tasty older metal too, some Jap, some Brit:elessimoParticipantHonda Rune, anyone?
elessimoParticipantYup Radar, we must take it to the next level (falling off at 8mph?!) next year.
Not many 250Ls around, either. Less lowered ones, too…..
Hmmm, could take a bit of work. Might as well get some armour in preparation though!
elessimoParticipantI did hope to ride one of the DRZs but they were out of action: just as well as I found the lowered 250L much easier than the standard one….. I’d have had even more ‘offs’ on a taller bike
Still on tarmac
elessimo and Radar
Gorgeous countryside
Thumper and elessimo
Lunch stop
Discussing a blast up the forest
Radar in action
The last working slate quarry in north Wales
Radar got quite attached to his 230…
Team SAD: well, we look the part anyway…..As Radar said, we all lost it briefly: Thumper nearly ejected at 20mph, Radar thought he’d make a big rut even bigger (using his rear tyre as an excavator) while I offed at 5mph, gracefully somersaulting sideways down the mountain in slowmo…… Kind of sums us up, really.
But great fun – as Robert says, Marianne seemed to be riding on air, never breaking into sweat while I cursed and slid around trying to keep up with T & R as they blatted up the tracks.

elessimoParticipantThat’s Geoff’s standard chat-up technique: works every time! :
elessimoParticipantThe sun shines on the righteous…..
elessimoParticipantCould well be right – good use for the left-over material….
