More a nostalgia trip than anything else and MAY evoke a few memories for some. When both your Grandads were into bikes, and for one of them it being his sole method of transport, and then your Dad being an AA Motorcycle Sidecar Patrolman on the A38 between Gloucester and Wychbold, and also who was also riding in the Racing 50`s Motorcycle Club in the late 1950`s and then Scrambling in the 60`s and Sidecar Trial Riding in the 70`s it`s no wonder that Biking has been in my blood since even before I can remember.
Learning to ride was left to me when riding around the paddock or at scrambling practice tracks on a Honda C50 and then a Suzuki 80 and finally on a “Pukker” trials bike which belonged to one of my Dads mates. I`ve just had a flashback ….. trials bikes were used by travelling marshalls at some scrambles tracks back in the 60`s! By the time I was 15 I was given a bike which unfortunately I cannot find a decent picture of, It was a New 1971 Sprite Grasshopper which was a 125 Trials bike built in Halesowen West Mids, it had a Sachs 2 stroke engine. From this point of my life onwards from 16 and with a full licence, (which was just prior to the 16 Year Old on a 50cc and 17 Year Olds on a 125cc Law),it was road bikes that got my attention :-
