That’s a good idea, let’s see them up here in Leeds!
LeviathanRanParticipantYeah, but I don’t have years of no claims, I barely have 1 year NCB and I’m turning 20 in June.
I also don’t really want a bike with a ‘Million miles’ on the clock from the 80’s, the machines look horribly dated and unless they have been looked after, from what I’ve seen are all about ready to fall apart. A 600 is an option, but for me right now it’s a very expensive option, one I can’t afford. I’ve ran the numbers time and time again, the biggest machine I can afford is a 1997 GS 500 which is about £1,000 TPFT
so If I’m going to be paying thru the nose I would rather have a ZXR-400 and pay the £950 they want for it. I’ve also been looking at a 1993 GPZ 500 and that’s a very nice bike, and they don’t want my first born child as insurance either, which is nice
Insurance is a pain in the arse when you’re young, that’s just the way it is.However, once I finally pass my test after some time on my 125 this summer and a few more lessons, and my two years are up.
I WILL be getting a ZX6-R because by then i will have about 3 years NCB and will be 23, so there!!LeviathanRanParticipantGo

Originally posted by R6_Birdi know what you mean, when i first thought about doing it i knew i would ultimatley like a 600, but considered getting a 400 for maybe a year to gain experience. on forums there was a big hoo ha about peep jumping straight onto R6’s which knocked me back a bit but the guys that knew me personally just said go for it and i’d handle it. But i guess it does depend on the rider, altho i’m still young i’m not a total t**t…i’m mature enough to not go beyond my current limits and think i’m sumink i’m not. yes my riding is improving and i’m getting faster at the twisties, but if i didn’t get along with my baby then i would’ve bitten the bullet and said ‘right this isn’t for me right now’ but as it turns out my instict was right even before i got on a bike…its odd!! altho i’ve no previous bike knowledge, i’ve been on the road for over 6 years so have some benifits that way.
The R6 for some peep wouldn’t be so forgiving in a f**k up, but its the rider who is in control…the bike will only go as fast as you make it. I understand peeps reservations about it, it is giving someone with little experience a hell of a lot of power- I’m confident not over confident..i still have shit days, then i’ll go out for an amazing ride with the boys and will get great feed back from them. When i first met Del and Sid they both said after this summer i’d be looking for sumink bigger, (i hope they were talking about bikes!?![][:o)] oo er!) but i would like to keep the R6 until next summer…we have plans to track it, and one of us get an R1 to go with the Fighter(s)…but thats a dream at mo! [][]Aww lovely story hehe
Wasn’t the insurance expensive though? Being a woman you probably got discounts and what not? You’re right though, the bike won’t do anything you don’t tell it to.
The basics still apply here; keep the throttle smooth in corners and you’ll be fine, Snatch at it and you’ll slide off and hit something, especially when it’s wet. (if a 50cc scoot with 10 bhp can do it, im pretty sure a, zxr-600 can lol)I do have to admit, I am smitten with this GPZ 500 at the local bike dealers… ooh… it is lovely…
