    Toseland mistake costs him pole

Toseland’s championship lead is now 32 points
Britain’s James Toseland was forced to settle for a place on the second row at Monza on Sunday after a mistake on the first corner of Saturday’s Superpole.
He could only manage a time of one minute, 45.824 seconds, meaning he will start the 18-lap race in fifth place.

Motor Italia Yamaha’s Noriyuki Haga will start on pole after he smashed the Monza track record with a 1:44.941.

Toseland said: “I braked too late into the first chicane, missed the corner apex and that was the lap finished.”

Australia’s Troy Bayliss took second on the Ducati Xerox in 1:45.345, with Max Biaggi third.

Australia’s Troy Corser took the final front-row position on the Yamaha Motor Italia to edge Toseland onto the second row.

With five wins already this season, Toseland holds a 32-point lead over Biaggi in the championship.
