Thanks Gix. I learnt my lesson the hardway on my CBR6 about letting tyres warm up before playing!
Not gonna make that mistake again. I’ll take heed of your warning about these tyres and maybe try somthing else on it when they need replacing.

Originally posted by GixBeware Pete, I had pilot sports on the K2, they took alot longer to warm up sufficiently to kneeslide than the tyres I use now and nearly as long as the dunlops used to, even when the weather was still warm when I first bought it.
I see what you mean about time to warm up now. I went for a good run yesterday and on the way back thought I’d have a practice again. I had so much more confidence so I was able to relax more and yes my knee repeatedly touched the deck. Easy-peasy, don’t know what I was having so many probs with. Ah well done it now… Whats next on my to do before I die list??? lol.
Thanks all for your advice, I guess I was just trying too hard so wasn’t relaxed enough and thoroughly warmed up tyres really helped!

Is that like “Back of the net!”?
April 14, 2006 at 9:16 am #47397GixParticipantOk, the idea is to get the rear wheel rotating slightly slower, producing a small slide that you can control on the turn to square off the apex and get on the power earlier as you exit turn. If you dont understand that, watch Gary MacCoy, and Vermuellen does it too, they king of slides!
Most people who use it for road riding initially stumble upon how to do it unintentionally.
Oh, and supermoto riders are ones to watch too, but to the extreme.[]April 14, 2006 at 11:14 am #47398Born2BMildParticipantSounds a bit like a handbrake turn in a car.

Watch THESE GUYS backing it in, Hayden, Biaggi and a few others having a go at supermoto. There is one part of the video where you can see exactly what they do, basically as they come into the turn they step on the back brake to produce a slide then tip it in, you can see the foot on brake. This is a demonstration of “backing it in” to the extreme, obviously not wise on the road, but it is possible to produce a “drifting of the rear” on the road that can be just enough to “square” off the bend and point you to the exit line sooner and thus able to get on the power quicker, out accelerating any one else.[]
