The Road Users Campaign To Kill diesel Spills (KillSpills) are holding what is hoped to be one of the biggest road safety motorcycle rally’s ever seen in London on the 11th September 2004. The event will start from the Ace Café with the bikes meeting there at 11am. The Metropolitain Police will provide an escort for the rally to Palace of Westminster and the KillSpills team will hand in their petition to Number 10 together with their report into diesel spills at 14.00 hours.
So join the KillSpills team as they ride through central London, with 1,000 bikes, from the Ace Café to the Palace of Westminster, with an escort kindly provided by the Metropolitan Police.
For more information see the website http://www.killspills.org.uk
It would be great if you could have a mass forum rideout and come along to the rally. If your intrest post here and let me know. You can also email me to let me know at [email protected]
Also what would be a great help is if you pass this post on to any other forums your members of.
Thanks to all of you, and anything you can do would be great.

FIVE vehicles careered off a road — with at least one landing on its roof — after an early morning diesel spill.
The spill, which is believed to have covered a five mile stretch of Grane Road between Haslingden and Blackburn, is thought to have occured at around 7.15 this morning.
In one incident three vehicles came off the road near to the Grey Mare pub with one a silver Ford Ka landing on its roof in a field. The male driver was able to free himself with minor injuries.
In a separate incident, further up the road towards Haslingden, two cars skidded and collided. None of the occupants were seriously injured.
Van driver Adrian McCullagh, from Huddersfield, who is currently working in Blackburn, said: “I came round the corner and just completely lost control as the van skidded on what I thought was diesel.
“My van ended up in a field at the side of the road.
“I was terrified when I spotted one car on its roof but the occupants had managed to get themselves free before I got out of my van.”
Traffic officer PC Paul Carrall, who was at the scene, said: “The problem has been the rain and we need to get the road clean before it rains again or conditions could become dangerous again“.
This time there were no bikers involved, if cars loose control… What chance do we have?
Best Regards

August 21, 2004 at 12:50 am #19855GixParticipantMaybe we shouldnt GSX Hooligan! After all, the next one could indeed involve a biker or an inocent pedestran! I do agree that nothing seems to be done about anyhting in this god forsaken country until its too late!!!!!!!!!! Dont care about irresponsible cagers gettin injured you undrstand, but not good whn its innocent people suffering!

August 21, 2004 at 1:02 pm #19856GSX RatParticipantThe innocent biker is already involved in 99% of these crashes. It is a sad fact of life that whilst motorcyclists continue to be hurt nothing will get done, but when mr and mrs average start crashing their 4×4’s in the leafy lanes of surbiton there will be an outcry and a call for action. I still maintain that it will take more of this type of accident before anything is done…

August 21, 2004 at 1:48 pm #19857GixParticipantI understand your point Hooligan and do not wish to cause offence, but at the end of the day, it isn’t the fault of ‘Mr and Mrs Average’ that diesel gets spilled on the road either, is it? I hate the fact that nothing seems to getting done about it too, but I cannot bring myself to hope for more accidents, whether they involve cars, lorries or bikes.

August 21, 2004 at 2:08 pm #19858wheelieParticipantI’m with Gixxer on this one, Hooligan. It’s true that it gets noticed more but nobody really wants accidents. It’s a tough call but I would even rather see a politician who can change the laws not get involved in an accident. Rather see it done properly and democratically, like the kill spills campaign advocates. In the UK we have freedom of speech and what is, I believe, one of the best democracies in the world. It’s this that allows us all to comment on this forum without fear of reprisals.
I’ve donated to the forum, have you?August 21, 2004 at 2:26 pm #19859GSX RatParticipantPerhaps the phrase hoping for more was a little badly worded. All i am saying is that if the accidents now were cars and not bikes the legislation would already be in place and it would be taken a lot more seriously than it is now…

August 21, 2004 at 4:23 pm #19860GixParticipantI know what you are trying to say Hooligan and I agree. It frustrates me and the guys I hang out with just as much! Maybe if it was some jumped up, obnoctious, car driving politician who lost control on some spilled diesel in his fancy jag………., maybe then we would be taken seriously!!
