Drivers in Birmingham were today handed a little piece of good news when it was revealed that two speed cameras are due to be pulled down.
The notorious cameras – one hidden behind a giant road sign – have been turned off and will be removed, road safety bosses said.
A further ten could follow because they breach visibility guidelines.
The move has been described by motoring organisation AA today as a victory for “common sense”.
The decision was taken after an audit into the location of the 260 road safety cameras across the West Midlands.
The West Midlands Casualty Reduction Partnership said the 12 identified cameras failed current Department for Transport guidelines stating they should be visible to drivers for at least 60 metres on roads with a 40mph speed limit and 100 metres for those where the limit is higher.
