    Bought this bike on Tuesday so thought I’d put a few words down on how I’m getting on with it [:)]

    When I picked the bike up from REDCAR SUZUKI in Leicester (0116 2661637, http://www.redcarmotorcycles.co.uk) I had a bit of a nightmare when I got there as I forgot to bring any utility bills as forms of ID for the credit agreement! D’oh!!![:I] Nigel sorted it out for me after some tense moments thinking I’d have to drive all the way home without the bike as I fortunately had enough other forms of ID with me.

    As soon as I was handed the keys it started to piss down, really magor league wet stuff so we all scampered back inside while I put me waterproofs on. The rain eased and Gareth showed me round the bike including the rather nifty dash and clocks with gear indicator and adjustable shift light. I have to say Redcar were fantastic and the bike looked awesome even though it was rather wet. After being told about the running in procedure I set off on me journey home.

    The clutch is almost instant to disengage, a lot different to me Speedtriple so I wobbled off in the rain following my nose for a slightly more interesting ride home. The thing that has stuck in my head most so far about the bike is how brillient the gear change is compared to me triple (not that its bad on that but the GSX-R is out of this world). The running in procedure is as follows:

    600 miles at 7.5k rpm max then 11k rpm max till 1000 miles not using full throttle (will be accelerating hard tho and then backing off to get heat cycles through the engine to maximise power). Then free reign to thrap it as loud and hard as I like [:D][:D][:D]

    6th gear at 7.5k gets me about 95mph so not slow really but very frustrating as it seems to be just on a gear change whenever I was mid corner. The ride back was awkward not just because I was on a new bike and running it in but was in waterproofs that were a little tight over my leathers so the hunched up riding position was hard to hold. Once I got closer to home and decided that it wasn’t going to rain anymore I ditched my waterproofs and was instantly more comfortable…. I say more comfortable but that isn’t a truth… the saddle compared to my Triumph is like sitting on a brick and my arse was so sore (ooh er) when I got home! Am getting used to it now and the riding position is growing on me and makes more sense with every ride. I need to learn to hang off the bike more as its not coming naturally to me at the moment and the last thing I want to do once its run in is highside it like I did at Cadwell.

    Now I have got more than 500 miles on the clock am beggining to creep up the revs and it is becoming a lot of fun and can hold a gear through corners now which means I can concentrate on my body position on the bike and get used to how quickly it turns into corners [:p] This bike is so nimble and light, the saddle is nice and low (this is what sold me the bike tbh as I can get both feet down and paddle it backwards when parking etc)

    I can’t really add much more at the moment because its still not run in but will add more to this as I can [:)]

    The bike is booked into WEST SUSSEX BIKES for its first service, its not a Suzuki dealership but they are very highly reccommended from a racer friend of mine and another mate who had her suspension set up by them [:)] So will put a review up of them once its been carried out.

    Great review Pete and I look forward to further updates. I must admit that it is a stunning looking bike. Is Phantom an official Suzuki name for it? Lat time I looked this was a Phantom:

    I got the first service done at West Sussex Bikes (01273493483) Fantastic guys really know there stuff and do a “proper job” as opposed to a quick job that seems to be the usual from big bike shops.

    Anyway thought it was time to stretch her legs a bit and….

    … Well I was pretty underwhelmed, thought “oh is that it?” then I looked down at the clocks and realised I was actually going faster down this lil twisty country road than I had ever been before :D Guess thats the trouble with going from an unfaired loud pipped bike thats capable of 160mph onto a lil rocket with standard can etc. I am gonna get into so much trouble on this bike! It is consistently going faster than I think it is, which would be a huge problem if the brakes wern’t so damn good, (had the rear wheel in the air yesterday while trying to negotiate a hump back bridge on a bend)

    Am gradually getting acclimatised to the bike and am not going quite so silly on it now (honest). Righty gotta go will try stringing something more readable together when I have more time :)

    hehehe awesome kit aint they the gixers, I went flying past an R1 on the A5 on sunday as if he was standing still, he tried to keep up but think he lost his bottle, either that or these R1’s aint cracked up to be what they claim. Apparently its difficult to keep the front down on an R1, well thats no bloody good unless you like straight line wheelying lol

    Well the Suzuki bug has not bitten here, but obvious that you are enjoying the Gixxer 750 to the full. Still amazed at the speed of your recovery and look forward to the next installment!

    Have been riding both bikes recently (1050cc Speedtriple and the gixer).

    I am finding that because the gixer is so damn good at everything; 135 wheelies included ;) it is almost too easy to ride! I spent a couple of weeks on the Speedtriple and the gixer has now turned me into even more of a hooligan, the triple is now hoiking its front wheel everywhere and going round bends faster than it should be with its bars waggling almost in a slow speed tank-slapper! So I love the gixer because it makes my Trupet so much more fun :D :D :D

    I have gelled with both bikes now and feel I can get a decent wiggle on without looking like a fool on the 750 now, it is so fast! it slices through bends like a razorblade and with a lil practice it puts its front wheel in the air almost as easy as the Triumph! The only real thing the gixer is lacking to me is that low down and mid range torque that you can really only expect from a triple!

    Am sure the 1000 would be able to match it but thats the next bike and I am in no hurry to get rid of the 750 for a few years :D

    Did I mention that the Phantom is bloody quick? lol, it reaches terminal velocity so easy and is rock solid at speed, I love the noise that me helmet makes as I tuck down under the screen, almost sucking my brains out through my ears Hahaha wow, what a bike.

    I am really in two minds about which bike is better tho, the gixer is cutting edge razor sharp and so fast, but my Triumph is such a laugh with its stupid loud pipes and no fairing and waggling bars and giggles beyond what a sane man should be admitting… It really is that good, but then the gixer is too but in a “throw what you like at me, do that corner faster, I don’t care, I’m better than you will ever be!” kinda way, LOL.

    So I appear to own the 2 best bikes in existance, now the new dilema appears… Which bike do I ride today, tomorrow, the next day? LOL. I also have another connundrum… I am about to be evicted so I may end up living permanently on base once back at work and I only need one bike then…. Grrr there is no way I could chose between them as I love them both for such opposite reasons; refined, surgical precision against the raw unadulterated pure filthy porn of the Speedtriple!

    LIFE IS AWESOME! Go on peeps try both bikes, although the 1050 has an extra tooth on the rear, even before that it was fantastic. Try them both and see if you could then choose between them, go on, TRY! lol :D :D :D

    Interesting reading Pete. I must admit that I thought the Triumph would heading for the exit once you had the Gixxer, so to discover it has actually made it even more enjoyable is unexpected. I love having a choice of bikes especially when they have different characters and have a different riding experience. If you have to go down to one bike I would go for Triumph as I think you get close to what you paid for the Gixxer if you sold that now. However you have not had much time with the Suzuki, so perhaps you should keep that one! Oh I don’t know!

    lol, tis a tough call. Hopefully it won’t come to that coz either bike will lose me a shed load of cash if I have to sell it! Time will tell and hopefully it will be nice to me some more :D
