by the way your little drop, we’ve all done it or almost done it at some point don’t sweat it too much.A good tip is don’t park facing down hill if you can help it as the bike can roll slightly and cause the stand to flip up, if you do have to park on an incline put your bike in gear (engine off) and roll it forward a touch before you put the stand down, this will stop it falling over so easily and it makes pulling away easier too especially if your on a busy
street leaving the bike between parked cars – it’s safer pulling out forwards than trying to push the bike back up a camber into moving traffic.
And now you’ve polished those forks – put a little ‘vasaline’ on to the legs (of the forks not yours) stops the road salt for longer and they stay shiny longer, just on the ally not the chrome your fork seals won’t appreciate it much.any questions just ask…we look after each other cos no bugger else will!
thanks for the advice – It has been borne in mind should i need to stop on a slope in that way []
As for it happening – I really surprised myself how mild i was about it happening. I can count my lucky stars there was no paint damage, and the damaged parts were approx £10 to replace including postage
The tip for the forklegs will be shortly implemented too! Nice one!

Phil_ER5Participantlooks like a cracking purchase! Hope you enjoy it

Phil_ER5ParticipantWhat about something like an ER5? Cheap and cheerful with dirt cheap parts, and cheap insurance (mine is £150 for the year with no no claims and a fresh licence

Shame about the drop but luckily easy fix! Well done Phil!cheers mate.
The great thing you get with bikes (and ive noticed this after approx 100 miles) is the cameraderie (sp). People flashing headlights, nodding or waving is something I seldom got in the car scene, and is something that to me as a newbie is still a novelty that pleases me no end.
So if you see a blue ER5 roaming around north wales give it a wave.. you will make my day… lol..
Phil_ER5ParticipantWell, I passed, and I have been out enjoying him.
Sadly I managed to not put the sidestand down properly and it fell over! the fantastic side of this was that the ER seems to be an emminently tough bike. The damage was limited to a scratched bar end, snapped clutch lever, a broken indicator and a scuff on my mirrors. No paint work damaged, no dents, and no plastics broken!
The other issue i had was travelling along the local bypass, my speedo decided to die. Got home and it appears the cable has snapped so its an easy fix
All in, It should cost me no much more than £25 to fix all the problems it has
cheers

PS did you know that you have a large African Goliath snail in your garden?
lol@ snail..
will get some of that paint – when i worked for halfords ([]) it was only about a fiver a can – will keep my eyes open
Phil_ER5Participantthanks for the concouragment and kind words people!
I first saw the bike when it had been parked up in a garage for six months or more after the owner had upgraded to a honda blackbird and it was only by chance that I discovered it was up for sale.
Hopefully i will pass this coming test date (3rd Nov) and then I will be able to go out and enjoy it!
then again – i said the same thing for my first test []
laters!
Phil
Phil_ER5ParticipantCheers!
its only been a basic spit and polish job, and replace that “interesting” fairing with the original light gear! All i had to buy was the mirrors and they were only about £25
