Just got the call, engine’s fixed and ready for collection, which I’ll do Thursday evening.

    @benji_zx10r

I assume you’ve got someone sorting yours, if not (when I know mine’s any good, and if your in the West Mids) I’ll put you onto the guy I used.

    Cheers

    Problem Solved.

Just in case anyone else gets stuck…

The Large head is actually a cap and if you leave the nut in place the other side of the bolt and use a bug enough alan key, the cap will unscrew revealing the full large diameter thread I mentioned (this must be for aligning the back end of the engine). One you’ve got the cap off, there’s a smaller alan socket to undo the head which WILL now fit through the access hole so you can withdraw the bolt fully.

Should feel like a numpty, but, no amount of searching or the Manual I’ve got on CD would reveal this.

P.S. Engine’s out and the Knackered piston and bore revealed Boooo Hooo[:(]

Hi Pete, if I can get it running I’ll be after some tips from you and the other CB100N fan Radar (a little tear appears in his I when it’s mentioned).
Carb still not set up properly yet but I’m fairly sure I got a cough out of it sunday evening. (only one and it was very faint but it’s a start)[:D][:D]

Right, done some more work on the engine, good news, it wasn’t seized.
Worked through the electrics and got a spark. Fitted another Carb and got a wet plug…looking good.

Still won’t fire. Was always taught on outboard engines you need Spark fuel and compression, so loan of a compression tester later (cheers AF)… No compression.

Looked at the spare engine and built it up with cardboard gaskets, not brilliant but showing some compression. Might as well strip down the original engine and have a look befor I use the new gaskets on the spare engine.

Half an hour later…bingo a bent valve in the head, explains zero compression. Piston and cylinder look quite good.

Swapped the head off the spare engine and got 8.5 to 10 bar compression.

Bolted the engine back in the frame but it still wouldn’t fire, I’ll have to recheck the ignition and fuel and learn how to set up a carb propperly. Haven’t suss’d posting pictures so can’t show a photo yet. Anyway time for a brew and a ride on the NSR.

    Thanks for the advice Imperialdata

Sorry Radar, it’s officially 3-2 now, NSR with a shiney new MOT and insurance is tucked away next to Baby 6 for the night.

Really frustrated as it’s great weather out there but I can’t get any tax ’til next week !! Ba humbug

P.S. CBT’s got to count for 0.5 on the license stakes so its 1-0.5 not 1-0 mate ;o)

    Thanks Lads

Right, found a potential candidate for getting me on the road quickly a Honda NSR125 R 2001.

Anyone give me some wise words on anything particular to check when I look it over.

Buying from an aquaintance so I’m sure the deal would be straight, but apparently the bike has been standing for a year or so although they’ve got it running ready for the sale.
    Any advise appreciated.

    Cheers

    P.S. Radar – hope you realize this could be 3 – 2 mate! ;o)

Actually, didn’t have to strip it. As we moved it to my car everything fell off!! and thats what was left! (second photo) :o) So I spent the next hour taking stock of what was there and what was missing. Some (almost right sized) bolts later and you have the first picture Radar posted.
Not easy doing a jigsaw puzzle without the box lid, but a bit of fun.

I’ve got Radar’s Manual now (thanks) and I think most of it is there. I need the top off the carb, I’ve ordered a new ingition barrel and battery and got a new bottom end gasket kit. The engine’s seized but it came as a “project” with a second engine and Gearbox which aren’t seized.

Will probably cost me the same as a “runner” when its back together but I will have learned something about bikes on the way.

I’ll post again when I’ve had time to work on the seized engine and find out what’s what.

    Cheers

Got myself a Honda CB100 in bits, Will learn a bit about bike mechanics putting it back together and maybe use it after my CBT if I don’t have time for direct access. Anyway, don’t want to hijack Radars thread.
Allegedly he’s coming around on Wednesday to reminisce about CB’s (I think personally he wants to check up on Baby Six). So if he doesn’t laugh too hard at the state of my newest aquisition I might start a new thread and get some help from you lot on the task ahead.

We’ll, got told off for lurking by the boss the other night, so here I am, the new owner of Baby 6 Radar’s FZ.

    Three scary facts for you.
    1. No I can’t ride yet (more scary for me than you)
    2. I now own more bikes than Radar !!!
    3. Either Radar wears high healed riding boots or his legs are longer than mine![:0]

    Cheers
