Police car crashes into Kidderminster shop frontAn internal police inquiry has been started after a police car crashed into a shop in Worcestershire.

The patrol car crashed into Vision and Audio Services Ltd in Kidderminster, after colliding with a Corsa in Sutton Road at about 1420 BST on Friday.

One man was in the silver Corsa and two West Mercia Police officers were in the patrol car. No-one was hurt.

The road was temporarily closed between the junctions with Talbot Street and Poplar Road, but has since reopened.

Amazingly the BBC didn’t mention the patrol car also flattened the XJR1300 of a chap who works in the shop!

    Full story:

A SHOP owner has spoken of the horror and mayhem as a police patrol car smashed into the window of his Kidderminster store.

Peter Mason, managing director of Vision and Audio Services Ltd in Sutton Road, was serving a customer on Friday at about 2.20pm when he saw flashing blue lights coming towards him.

He said: “The police car skidded right across the window of our shop in front of me, then it hit the support for our roller shutter. That got ripped out and the whole shutter assembly came crashing down and the glass window shattered.”

The police car carried on, damaging the house next door’s stone window sill, tearing away the basement cover and knocking down a garden wall before the front wheels became stuck in a ditch in the garden, he told The Shuttle.

Moments before, the patrol car, which was responding to an emergency, was in collision with a silver Vauxhall Corsa, which ended up behind the police vehicle, facing the shop’s smashed window.

Mr Mason added: “The Corsa which the police car struck coming down, had L plates on and was turning right into Greatfield Road, positioned and signalling correctly. The police car on its blue lights went by and they collided. The Corsa followed in and basically stopped before it got to us. The damage was already done.

“The noises were horrendous. We were locked in the shop as the grille had come diagonally down so we had to get out the back.”

The owner of the tv, video and hi-fi store who has rented the premises for 10 years, said he was amazed nobody was around when the drama unfolded. “Another half an hour and there would have been school kids there and they would have been killed outright. That’s one big blessing. It’s such a busy corner there would have been fatalities everywhere if there had been anyone about.”

He went on: “My engineer’s £9,000 motorbike was totally written off. It was total mayhem. It was quite surreal – it was happening and then there was this horrendous noise of screeching and banging and it stopped and there was silence.”

The male driver of the Corsa and his two female passengers were unhurt. The two officers in the police car also escaped injury.

The road was cordoned off for over two hours from the junction with Talbot Street to the junction with Poplar Road and re-opened just after 5pm.Mr Mason has boarded up his window and said he is doing his best to trade as normal.

A police spokesman said a full investigation was under way to determine the exact sequence of events. Witnesses to the collision or anyone with information should call police on 0300 333 3000, quoting incident reference 408-S-240611.
