should change your name to CoolKat. Very nice job.
Are they black transfers on the tank and guards, or paint? Will you be putting any decals on it?
April 3, 2006 at 8:50 pm #45904katanaParticipantThanks Radar and Scouser.
Hoping to have it back on the road by Easter.
The stripes are painted on and then laquered. It difficult to see on the photos but both the green and the black are metallic. I’m not planning on adding any decals although I might have another numberplate made up with the web address of the Bikeforum on it.
May 14, 2006 at 10:26 pm #45905katanaParticipantWell finally put it all back together today
Mr and Mrs Radar were even there for the unveiling
I’m really pleased with how its come out.
Anybody else got any projects on the go?
May 14, 2006 at 10:32 pm #45906GixParticipantDid you get the number plate with thebikeforum url?

May 14, 2006 at 11:19 pm #45909RadarModeratorI can confirm its not only Kawasaki that can make green look mean! Kat has done a good job and the bike looks superb! Roll on summer!
May 29, 2006 at 10:57 pm #45910katanaParticipantAt last!!
On Sunday finally managed to get the important combination of a break in the weather, road tax and insurance, in order to take the bike out for its first (legal) run since I took it apart.
It started up fine on the button and ticked over evenly (all be it loudly). All was fine until I opened it up and the timing chain began to rattle. So with the bike sounding like a Talbot Horizon I made my way gingerly back home.
I knew what the problem was, the cam chain tensioner. When I took it apart I noted the preload on the spring to be 1 1/2 turns but my genuine Suzuki workshop manual (not a common Haynes book of lies) stated 1 turn. Uncharacteristically I followed the manual – doh!
It is possible (but fiddly) to remove the tensioner without taking off the carbs (made easier as I haven’t got an airbox). So with the tensioner reset and 1 1/2 turns of preload on the spring I refitted it and the bike runs like a goodun.
So now I’m all set for the summer (as long as nothing else falls off, catches fire or just decides to not work – the joys of a 21 year old bike).
May 30, 2006 at 8:40 pm #45911RadarModeratorPlease to heear you have got her running. Pop up for a cuppa and a bacon butty! Only 40 mins away, even a Suzuki should be able to manage that!

I’ll take you up on that – might have to stop over night half way though!
July 21, 2008 at 9:35 pm #45913ScouserParticipantLooks great, whats the latest installment?
July 22, 2008 at 8:01 pm #45914katanaParticipantHaven’t done a lot to it since Scouser just put an Acewell clock and LED indicators on it.
August 12, 2008 at 10:05 pm #45915RadarModeratorLike the indicators bud, you will have to pop up and come out for a ride now you are done Scumballing and Bulldog bashing!
February 12, 2009 at 12:22 pm #45916hammyModeratorIs it still going well Katana?
February 12, 2009 at 8:09 pm #45917katanaParticipantYep Hammy, but a 1994 Fireblade has now joined it in the Kat cave
