This started off as just a respray
but then the wheels looked tatty so it was off to the powder coater
Got them back todayNow I’ve decided that the engine could do with a coat of paint and some more polishing. So I am now left with the frame on the stand and the rest of the bike sprinkled around the garage (and hidden throughout the house – until Mrs Kat finds it).
Just in time for the weather to get better – DOH!!!
March 11, 2006 at 12:48 am #45889RadarModeratorIts gonna look good Kat. Keep us updated with progress reports and pics. Might zap down on the XJR and take a look if that’s OK

Thanks M8, I wanted something that wasn’t typically Suzuki. BTW the engine and the frame are still going to be black.
Radar – be glad to see you, I will be around most of the weekend.
March 15, 2006 at 5:04 pm #45892LexParticipantDid you pick the colour????
March 15, 2006 at 7:59 pm #45893katanaParticipantyep – with some help from my son
March 16, 2006 at 9:30 pm #45894RadarModeratorNothing wrong with it kat, hope the weather pickes up this weekend and I will pop in to see your progress. How is it coming along? Anymore pictures?
March 17, 2006 at 7:57 pm #45895katanaParticipantno more pictures yet – I will take some over the weekend.
Got the tyres and bearings put back in my wheels. The engine is out, degreased and masked ready for painting but the weather has been too cold to spray it (the paint won’t adhere properly if it’s sprayed on too cold). Will start on polishing the engine cases this weekend.
March 17, 2006 at 9:41 pm #45896sidParticipantare you planning anymore engine mods?
March 18, 2006 at 10:12 am #45897katanaParticipantno more engine mods planned. I think if I take anything else apart I’ll never get back on the road for the summer.
March 18, 2006 at 12:51 pm #45898imperialdataKeymasterDid you spray the bits yourself Kat?
March 18, 2006 at 3:01 pm #45899katanaParticipantNo they were painted professionally. My Dad is working in a accident repair centre, one the blokes there did it for me. He is hoping to get more into custom paint and had found this new paint supplier in the US he wanted to try.

What’s left of the bike on the stand:
No comments on the state of my garage – birdtable may feature in a future project “Sparrowfighter”and here’s the engine masked up ready for a coat of PJ1 black paint
April 2, 2006 at 4:37 pm #45901katanaParticipantBeen getting on with painting the engine and polishing the engine cases now the weather has perked up a bit.
Here is the engine after 4 coats of PJ1 gloss black, demasked ready to be put back in the frame.
These are a couple of the cases.
The one on the left is prepared ready for polishing – original paint stripped off with Nitromors Automotive stripper then sanded with 1200 grit wet and dry.
The one on the right has had it first stage polish (1 of 3 stages). With a bit of luck I should be ready to put the engine back in the bike next weekend.
April 2, 2006 at 11:42 pm #45902RadarModeratorComing on nicely Kat, when do you expect it to be road ready?
