June 29, 2005 at 11:02 pm #28700rocketRichyParticipantWell let me put it another way…. would the man who drove over a red light and run me down have done it if he hadnt had a drink ? He may well not have poisoned his kids by not smoking infront of them earlier in the evening while he was drinking his 8 tins of XXXX in front of the tv but that comes as f&ck all consolation to me.
Given the choice id rather he’d blown smoke in my face than end up on the bonnet of his car.
Anyway the coppers sent him down…you ask them what they think of drink related crime and whether its antisocial or not…and yes i realise these offenders are in the minority, still doesnt make it any less wrong .

Originally posted by barmy_carmyGixer your point about cost,I’ve paid thousands of pounds in National insurance over the years, Isnt that what National Insurance is for? not to mention the amount of tax I’ve paid on ciggys. So I’ve more than paid for my treatment should I need any. and as I said before ie. one smoking pub and one non-smoking pub, same with Restruants and clubs etc If they done that there would be no need for you to be around smokers. Then everyone has the right to choose which establishment they go in. and that’s my soapbox bit.
I’m not riding fast, I’m just flying low. and please DONATE to this website
so do you think that if you pay national insurance you should be able to harm your body however you like. So i assume that non smokers who dont drink and aint overweight should pay less national insurance then. Or are you a hippocrite?(not sure on spelling)
June 29, 2005 at 11:22 pm #28702RadarModeratorNever smoked, hate smoking, no smoking in my house or car etc. However when you go into a pub, you kinda of know what you are letting yourself in for, so I see that as a matter of free choice. As a non-smoker I am happy to go into a smokey pub.
However, for resturants, or areas of pub serving food I feel non smoking to be more appropriate, same goes for cinemas, but not football matches. Am I making sense?
Basically I am not in favour of ban, but certain restrictions should apply.

Obese folk dont pay high taxes on the junk food they abuse their body with, and people without unhealthy habits or vices also suffer ill health, sometimes hereditory, but should they pay extra NI if there is history of hereditory disorders?
This is a debate that will always remain heated, smokers are argueing that their civil liberties are being infringed upon, and non smokers are saying that they shouldn’t have to put up with it…well they dont really, if they choose to stand near smokers, sit in smoking areas when they are given a choice, then thats their choice, and thats what it should be about….”freedom of choice”….on BOTH sides of the fence.
No win here me thinks….[]LOVE IS GIVING SOMEONE THE ABILITY TO DESTROY YOU, THEN TRUSTING THEM NOT TO.

June 29, 2005 at 11:38 pm #28704GixParticipantCan I just add that I have the utmost respect for non smokers wishes? When I visit a non smoking household, I do not smoke in their house, or intheir car etc….simply because if the shoe was on the other foot so to speak, I would expect the same courteousy and respect.
But to ban smoking? Still say how they gonna enforce it?LOVE IS GIVING SOMEONE THE ABILITY TO DESTROY YOU, THEN TRUSTING THEM NOT TO.
