My point exactly Gixerchic! Actually GSX, alchohol does change your personality when you’re drunk, you’re either bubbly and joking, depressed or violent, or abusive or just munged out. I know from experience the violent drunk! (And no not me)

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, But rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, VODKA in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming…….WOO HOO, WHAT A RIDE!!
June 29, 2005 at 6:01 pm #28686DiggerParticipantIs it ok to come out now,can I just say that does any one know of anybody becoming unhealthy through passive drinking….
Take it easy out there
June 29, 2005 at 6:03 pm #28687GixParticipantnot passive drinking but I know someone who doesnt drink yet has suffered ill health directly as a result of someone else drinking….

Alcohol does not change your personality. It may bring to the fore things that make up your personality, such as the desire to be a total nob and smack the missis when you have had a drink, but that desire is in the mind all the time – alcohol does not put it there nor does it cause it. The loutish behaviour witnessed in most towns on a weekend is down to many things that are wrong in this country, but i know plenty of people who can get absolutely hammered without feeling the need to beat up anyone, least of all the missis, or go round shouting, swearing etc etc, although i have been known to take the occasional traffic cone and road sign but alcohol is not to blame for that ether, coz i’ve done it stone cold sober.
It’s all well and good blaming alcohol for these sorts of things, for instance domestic violence but if it is the case that alcohol causes this behaviour then it would also be accepted as a valid excuse and defence for it both in a court of law and society in general.
As digger has asked, has anyone else been affected by passive drinking – the answer is NO.

June 29, 2005 at 9:12 pm #28690rocketRichyParticipantIt depends on the way you want to look at the way drink and smoke affects the people who are not directly ingesting it.
For example I can sit next to someone drinking and not smoking in a pub and have no ill affects. I can leave the pub and get knocked down by someone who has been drink driving, because although there is some merit in your reasoning that ‘its inside them’ , drinking too much affects a persons ability to reason.. ..and their ability to control themselves. Having been the victim of a drunk driver who deliberately went over a red light to knock me down i doubt very much whether he would have done the same thing in the cold light of day….but because he was off his tits on booze he thought it was a good idea..much like punching someone at a club because he pulled the bird you were after etc.. etc..
So basically the difference is that the damage you do to someone via passive smoking is insidious, its not apparent what damage you are causing and its not overtly offensive..not like some pissed up burberry capped lout mouthing obscenities and threats at any innocent passers by. Subjecting someone to your smoke or subjecting someone to your pissed-upness are both wrong and both, to be honest, bad manners.
Maybe instead of using the term ‘passive smoking’ or ‘passive drinking’ it should be called “being exposed to the consequences of someone elses habit”. People take the choice about whether they expose themselves to these consequences by either not visiting smokey pubs etc. or not going down Broad Street on a Saturday night wearing their Baggies shirt. Let them get on with it..dont ban it, just dont expose yourself to it.
Well thats what I think anyway.
I’ll get me coat.

June 29, 2005 at 9:16 pm #28692GSX RatParticipantSorry mate, but there’s plenty of people i know who get drunk without feeling the need to drive either – again, its not the alcohol, its the fact that they dont give a fu$k about anyone but themselves – that and the fact that they think theyll get away with it so they reckon that to save a couple of quid on a taxi is worth risking someones life for..
Still not alcohol though….

June 29, 2005 at 10:22 pm #28694DiggerParticipantOk,I`ll put it another way….If I was to drink 4 cans of lager in my living room watching a DVD with my 2 kids, would I be harming their health in the process?I don`t think so but if I was to smoke during the film I think that would effect them. Also smoking around asmatics can cause them to have an attack.Drinking dos`nt.
