VANDALS have attacked three speed cameras over the holiday period.
The attacks were centred on Royston and the camera poles were flattened in each case.
A camera on the A603 Cambridge Road, south-west of the turning for the Eversdens and Harlton, was levelled and almost pulled out of the ground.
Tyre tracks were clearly visible on the road verge close to the camera location.
There was a similar attack on another Cambridgeshire Safety Camera Partnership Gatso camera on the A10 near the Meldreth turning, also on a stretch of single carriageway road with a 60mph limit.
And across the border in Hertfordshire, a camera pole on the south-eastbound carriageway of the A505 dual carriageway near the turning for Ashwell and Morden railway station was levelled.
In all three cases, it appears as if a rope or chain was attached to the pole and pulled over by a vehicle.
A Cambridgeshire police spokeswoman said: “Police are aware of the incidents and are carrying out investigations.”
She said the Cambridgeshire Safety Camera Partnership was aware of the incidents but nobody from the partnership was available for comment yesterday.
