Tynwald query over uplands damage
The heather uplands are being ruined by cars and motorbikes
The problem of off-road bikes and vehicles damaging uplands on the Isle of Man is to be highlighted in Tynwald.
North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson will ask the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry what action is being taken to combat the problem. He will also ask on Tuesday how many cases have been brought against illegal vehicle users on moorland.
Agriculture Minister Phil Gawne has previously acknowledged heath uplands were being ruined by motor vehicles.
Mr Henderson said: “Obviously, we’ve got to have certain amounts of events, many of which are done in a sensitive and positive way, with most of the clubs on the island acting responsibly and their efforts have got to be applauded.
“But nonetheless there is still a minority that is causing general destruction to the heather moor in our hill-lands and certainly I am well aware of people coming to the island to do the same thing because they are not allowed to do it in their own country.”
