Toseland is trying to regain the title he won in 2004
James Toseland and team-mate Karl Muggeridge had a disastrous final day of World Superbike testing in Valencia.
Britain’s Toseland was left nursing a sore head after crashing, while Aussie Muggeridge on the other Winston Ten Kate Honda fractured a vertebrae. He will be out for two months, putting more pressure on Toseland whose Honda had vibration problems in Spain.
The pair’s woes were compounded as Troy Bayliss smashed the Valencia lap record on his Ducati Xerox.
Muggeridge said: “I knew I was hurt straight away, the pain was quite strong.
“Now all I can do is to relax so that I can be back in top form as soon as possible.”
Toseland added: “I took a big hit this morning, I felt like I got punched by Mike Tyson, but I was a little lucky and now I feel better.
I hope Karl will feel better soon.”
Toseland is second in the points standings behind Bayliss, but the Australian has established a psychological advantage this week.
His lap times have been fast throughout the three days, whereas Toseland was down in 16th after day three.
Misano in San Marino will host a two-day test from 12-13 April before the series returns to race action with the third round at Valencia on 23 April.
