Tamada injury doubt after crash
Makoto Tamada could miss the rest of the current MotoGP test at Phillip Island after a heavy crash on the first day. The Konica Minolta Honda rider was taken to a local hospital for scans on his left hand and foot and, although no severe damage has shown up on the initial results, doctors are unsure whether he will be fit to ride for the next couple of days.
“I’m very sad about what happened today because it was the first day of testing and my lap times were giving me a lot of satisfaction,” said a dejected Tamada at the end of the test.
“With a race setting on my bike, I was riding faster than during last year’s Grand Prix. Now my only hope is to be able to continue, even though I will not be in my best physical condition, to work during this test to develop the bike and obtain important data for the Grand Prix this season.
“I feel a lot of pain in my left hand and foot, but luckily I didn’t get seriously injured – let’s hope that ice will help me out and will let me ride my bike again tomorrow.”
To add insult to injury, even if Tamada is fit to return before the end of the test his number one machine will not.
“The bike had some serious damage and it will not be possible for us to fix it for the rest of this test,” explained Konica Minolta Honda Technical Director Giulio Bernardelle.
“Therefore, even if Tamada feels better, the programme will allow us to develop our work only on one bike. This morning we made many technical adjustments on the frame of the bike, and if the physical conditions of the rider will improve, tomorrow we will follow the schedule of work that we have planned.
“Even though we only had the chance to see the bike on the track for half of the day, we are very satisfied with the results because they made us understand that we will also be able to compete at the highest level at this circuit during the season.”

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, But rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, Vodka in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming…….WOO HOO, what a ride!
