With what you know about biking and its associated dangers, fuel spillages, didn’t see you brigade….etc

What would be your reply if your son or daughter (of ridable age) told you they were getting a bike?

My son wanted to buy a GPz750 off his mate as a first bike! I said no chance, you can start on a small bike and work your way up. Thankfully he’s lost intrest and I’m quite pleased inside.

    What would you do?

well if youre still allowed to ride a bike by the time ellie’s old enough i wouldn’t be able to say no as i would hope i’m still riding then but as you say scouser start them off on small bikes and hopefully have them move up over a series of sizes until theyre ready for the big toy’s

If one of my kids wanted to ride, they would atleast have to stay on a 125 or something like that for a couple of years just to let them get to see the dangers and get good road sense, then if they wanted a big bike after that then fair enough,if i thought they wern`t sensible or not capable then it would be a no no.

If some day I have kids, then they’ll be brought up like I was, going out on the back of the old mans bike.. then learning properly and riding out with the old man to make sure he/she is competent.. only then will he/she go out alone!
I’m not too much of a fan of sticking to 125’s as theyre so underpowered, I’d prefer they get up to a 500 twin as that extra power can be advantageous.

It is hard to stop them doing things that they want to do, especially when it is an activity we enjoy so much ourselves. The best approach to ensure they get well trained and equipped and learn the skills needed progressively

I have faced this with my step kids. My step daughter started coming out on the back when she was 16 and now doesnt live at home but still ocassionally wants to come for a blast round the block. My step son michael bought an ar50 for his 16th birthday but it turned out to be a shed so we got him a yamahe Neos 50 scooter thing more for transport than anything. I’ll be more than happy if he wants a 125 at 17. I see no problem with any of my 3 young’ uns wanting to ride a bike. Im happy to share my knowledge and teach them the basics. Bikes are sometimes dangerous a dn i’ve seen a few friend sover the years go down to these danagers but i would never deprive my step kids the pleasure of knowing about biking.

The thought of my kids getting bikes as they get older scares the crap out of me, but I still want them to experience it, I shall just makes sure they are well prepared as Radar says. My eldest occasionally goes on the back of my bike with me, only half mile home from school, she has textiles etc but wants to go to Bassetts Pole and on some longer rides with me, but for that I will be getting her some leathers, I know textiles offer protection buut I will feel happier with her if she has leathers.
My youngest is too small for the bike yet, she can reach the pegs now but dont think she will sit till as she cant even sit still at the dinner table lol
