[?]A company in East Yorkshire has chucked out the wheezy original 660cc turbo engne and stuck in a Suzuki GSX-R1000 motor in the MCC Smart!
130 mph and 0-60 in 4 seconds.
Kit cost £6,000 + the car.
THEY MUST BE A SARNY SHORT OF A PICNIC!! [V][V]February 10, 2004 at 9:03 am #17532imperialdataKeymasterSounds expensive but fun!
February 12, 2004 at 11:26 pm #17533TimDParticipantCompany name is Z-Cars. They did some of the work on my chassis, have been doing BEC stuff for a long while now with background in grasstrack racing.
Website here: https://www.zcars.org.uk/ but no info on the Smarts yet.
I have some pics of the demo car and conversion kit Chris had at the Autosport show recently if anyone is interested..The kit also fits the new Smart roadsters. Having test driven the roadster and also driven GF’s normal Smart, I reckon it’d be best put in the roadster which at least goes round corners to start with! []
February 12, 2004 at 11:31 pm #17534TimDParticipantPS. The conversion kit is currently £6000 all in and fitted. This cost may well go down if they can sort out a better way of dealing with the wiring. Currently each conversion is almost completely rewired by hand.. [:0]
Chris was talking about using some kind of mutli-plug connector thing and just plugging all the new bit into the original bit which would obviously speed the process up a bit.
Knowing Chris though, I wouldn’t hold your breath on this one! []February 13, 2004 at 9:48 am #17535AnonymousInactiveI’d like to see your pics of the Smart Tim. Any pics of your car too? Sounds great.
February 13, 2004 at 8:05 pm #17536TimDParticipantI have put a temp webpage up with the GSXR1000 Smart pics on here:

Your car is a superb piece of work!February 14, 2004 at 11:36 am #17538imperialdataKeymasterYup, nice work on the car and the website
February 14, 2004 at 11:52 am #17539imperialdataKeymasterSmart car looks great and even better without the bodywork! Quality of your shots is excellent, what camera are you using?
February 14, 2004 at 12:31 pm #17540TimDParticipantTa, its a Fuji Finepix S602Zoom digi camera. Have a half gig flash card so all sots are taken on a high res setting so can be cropped and sized later without losing quality.
Having said that I only ever leave it set on “Auto” so presumably if I knew what I was doing I could get better pics with it!! []February 16, 2004 at 9:47 am #17541imperialdataKeymasterTo take close up shots like that indoors (presumably with a flash) it must be a good one. Where did you see the Smart?
February 16, 2004 at 10:47 am #17542TimDParticipantDon’t remember if I used the flash or not – quite possibly though! the file info tells me all sorts of guff about shutter speed and stuff, but not if the flash was on or not! Ho hum.
The Smart was at the Autosport International sho at the NEC in January. It’s a good show (especially if you can get in the quieter trade days) but mainly racecar type stuff not motorbikes specifically, unless their engines are being used in cars! []February 16, 2004 at 3:33 pm #17543wheelieParticipantLove to see any car/bike stripped down to the chassis. Always looks like there’s gonna be something special going on.
I’ve donated to the forum, have you?March 10, 2004 at 4:50 pm #17544TimDParticipantMore info and video clips of the Smart BECs here, if folks are still interested:
