On his first official appointment as a Ducati Marlboro Team rider, Sete Gibernau spoke to journalists at the MotoGP Press Ski Meeting 2006 earlier today, during which he revealed his thoughts on his new team, the Desmosedici GP06 and his aspirations for the upcoming season.
The Spaniard has already put a few miles on the clock of the Ducati bike during tests last November at Valencia and Jerez. He sees the Ducati-Bridgestone combination as one with which he can afford to look at the 2006 season with optimism.
“Being in a team which is 100% behind me, with the ambitions, the means and the enthusiasm to produce good results, is like realizing a dream” announced Gibernau. He spoke positively about his adaptation to his new team, whom he joins from Honda. “Every day that goes by I feel better in the team and I am sure that it will be an entertaining season, full of satisfaction and that I will be capable of repaying the trust that has been put in me”.
The Barcelona-based rider made it clear that he was looking to bounce back from a season in which he was fast but let down by falls and mechanical problems. He described the task that lies ahead for him with Ducati.
“It’s going to be a difficult year, because every year MotoGP becomes more and more difficult and competitive, but I’m not afraid of the job ahead as I know exactly what was missing last year and what I need to do this season to get good results. The potential is there, day after day I’m more and more convinced of that, and I can only look ahead with optimism”.
Gibernau finished off by revealing his satisfaction with his new bike.
“In a few days time we’ll be leaving for the tests but after the first laps I completed in November on the Desmosedici, I could see that it was a great bike, albeit completely different to what I had ridden before. Add to this a great team and a company that has always made racing its philosophy and I am sure that I have made the right decision.”
Gibernau and teammate Loris Capirossi will tomorrow unveil the Desmosedici GP06 on the snows of Madonna di Campiglio.
