Roberto Rolfo will contest his rookie MotoGP World Championship in 2005 after signing a contract with Team D’Antín today. The Italian put pen to paper on a one-year deal to ride a Ducati Desmosedici with Dunlop tyres in the squad run by former rider Luis d’Antin.
“We’re delighted that Roberto will be joining our project for next season,” explained D´Antín. “He is going to be in charge of developing the Dunlop tyres. He’s a top quality rider, as he demonstrated when he finished runner-up in the 250cc class in 2003, and he is technically very gifted.
“Also, he spent a period as a test rider for Aprilia and his experience will be very valuable to us. His incorporation to the team has been backed up by several Italian sponsors.”
D´Antín added that he is in negotiations with former British Superbike Champion Shane Byrne over the second place in the team, which parted company with Neil Hodgson and Ruben Xaus at the end of the 2004 season.
