Random question,
In the world of mopeds, whats the difference between 2 Stroke Sports and 2 Stroke Step-Thru??
Thanking in advance
November 10, 2008 at 8:46 pm #56994imperialdataKeymasterHi Champs
I’d stand corrected but I always thought a step-thru was a moped like a C50 where you literally “step through” the frame to get on. Sports would be the other type of styling, like a mini sports bike.
Unless I’m missing something that’s my 2
strokespence worth[]November 10, 2008 at 9:01 pm #56995ChampsParticipantAh, unless someone corrects you then that makes sense. I thought it was something to do with the transmission but not sure what that could be.
Cheers.
November 10, 2008 at 11:54 pm #56996TT07ParticipantWell until today, I had believed that the term “Step Through” related to the gear change, as in the rocker type gear lever, which was tapped forward of the footrest to go down the box and tapped rear of the footrest to go up the box.
Having checked out the question on the net I now believe it to be as ID suggests, as this official Honda site
refers to “it’s step through design”.
You learn something every day!!!!!!!!!

November 11, 2008 at 2:33 pm #56999BigBenParticipantyes ID is perfectly correct, although you can also get 4 stoke stept throughs. like those silly burgman things.
November 11, 2008 at 7:48 pm #57000ChampsParticipantWell then, here we are… number 14! The Jammy Bodgers! LOL!!!

We have a moped, but its not in great condition, its an ’03 Gilera Runner 50SP, but has been sitting in a very wet garage for about 3 years. Brakes are seized, fuel and oil lines are splitting and the battery is completely shot, you need to connect the jump starter to even make the indicators work!!! Can get the engine ticking over but you can’t throttle up because, i think, the back wheel is seized and the engine stalls.
Will get some photos when the weather is better, and will make a blog on our build up to the races!
Happy days!!

I ran a moped racing team in the 1990 BMF rally, we had a great time and came in 6th out of 12 in our class using a Puch maxi of all things!
I have posted some pictures on here somewhere, but i can’t find them at the minute.
Good luck with the racing, I look forward to reading about your progress

The moped only has 12inch wheels and its on rough ground, nos would be more of an uncomfort than an advantage!
November 16, 2008 at 7:04 pm #57005ScouserParticipantI concur ID is right with the step through. Still have a trusty C90 in the garage for nuclear emergencies
