South Eastern Enduro Championship? What’s involved in that one?
January 12, 2009 at 6:23 pm #57317HippoDronesParticipantAm only entering as Sportsman so won’t be in the championship. Tis possibly a 5hr event (gulp!) over about 10miles of forestry. It looks a bit sandy but am crossing my fingers that its nothing like the Boxing Day sand pit coz that sucked a lot!
Am entering with a mate both in the same class so hopefully I’ll beat him but seriously doubt it coz he’s been doing MX for ages so has a bit more experience riding than me.
As far as I’m aware we are given a time slot to start, then have to finish the lap within a time limit or else we lose 60pnts per min late. We also lose points for starting our next lap early too but I doubt that’ll be a prob for me coz I won’t get round in time anyhows! lol I think this one will have a special stage too which is a more technical bit that is timed to the 1000th of a second to decide who wins out of those with the same amount of laps completed.
I’ve now got the regs and entry form printed out so just need to get that filled out and posted and get my bike fixed from the last one (blown a fork seal)
I’m hopefully gonna have a bunch of mates cheerin us on again so as long as I manage to not break the bike or myself or have to stop for a fallen rider like Boxing Day I hope to have a few more pics for this one.

January 13, 2009 at 11:28 pm #57321HippoDronesParticipantI think I’m just stupid! lol
January 20, 2009 at 1:00 pm #57322RadarModeratorHow is the prep going Pete?
January 20, 2009 at 5:43 pm #57323HippoDronesParticipantBikes serviced, brake-pads are still ok as I replaced them for the last one, chain and sprockets still surviving, although they will prob need replacing after this one.
Bike is still using a bit of oil but after chattin to the local KTM shop I am no longer worried bout that, will just make sure I have some oil in the fueling area for a top up if needed.
I am still way outta shape but think I’ve left it too late to improve on that noticibley so will get down the gym when I can but am not gonna bother stressing about that too much. Have just “won” a new set of Scott goggles from work so hopefully I’ll be able to see out them a bit longer this time as the old ones were a bit scratched up and with the low sun caused nasty glare at times.
I think all I have left to do is fuel up the bike and jerry cans and find the place. So pretty much on top of things!January 26, 2009 at 10:34 am #57324HippoDronesParticipantI know my race number now, am 160 and start at 1039, my mate Ed is 167 and starts at 1041
Am beginning to start bricking it now! :$
lol
January 26, 2009 at 12:37 pm #57325RadarModeratorYou will be fine! Looking forward to reading about it

Had a wicked time, didn’t finish tho as I lost all stamina but I managed 1 big loop (10miles) 1 special stage (timed to 1000th sec) and 1 small loop (5miles) before giving up. Some of the riding was brilliant fun but the bogs sucked me in and were a nightmare to get out of. Think I got stuck in pretty much each one, including a proper dunking face an all when I toppled off lol (yuk)
My stamina really needs some work and so does my technique but I hardly suffered any arm pump on this one so I must be doing something properly!
I’m still waiting on pics although a few have been stuck on facebook. I will stick all the pics up when I get copies at a later date but with only managing 1 lap of each section I don’t think there will be many pics.
I am thinking bout having a go at some MX on the bike, just for fun but at least that should be easier to get some snaps taken!
February 4, 2009 at 11:45 am #57328imperialdataKeymasterI’m sure stamina plays a huge part in events like this. The pros are all very fit and train most days so you did well to manage the 15 miles, especially stopping off for a few mudpack facials en route!
February 4, 2009 at 12:55 pm #57329HippoDronesParticipantThe riding when it goes well is not too tough as I go slower than I maybe would on an MX practice track to conserve energy and also its all unknown. But when it goes wrong and you keep falling off, just picking the bike up is a killer. There is a defo advantage to the smaller capacity 2 strokes, the 125 has about the same power as my 250F but weighs 15kg lighter so is a lot easier to pick up when dropped and to try lift out of bogs when stuck. Harder to ride fast tho, and also the 4 stroke is better on escaping bogs and getting up steep climbs with low grip.
It is amazing watching the guys who have been doing it a while, they ride past me like I’m going backwards and they maintain such a fast pace throughout the whole event, truly fit mo-fo’s!
