I have to have something to mess with over the winter.

This year it was a Britannia Lathe (type 14), built around 1900. Originally it was treadle powered but has been converted to run a 240v motor sometime ago.

I bought it as a pile of rusty bits in October and picked it up in the back of my hatchback. Now it’s nearly finished and acting as a kind of antique ground anchor for the Blade.

Once I’ve hooked the motor back up I’m going to stick it on ebay so if you know anyone that might be interested let me know. It comes with 2 three jaw chucks, a four jaw chuck, a face plate to use with the gap bed and a collection of change wheels.

    And this week’s guest publication is…… [:D]

Secretly I really like that lathe and if I was single I’d probably buy it off you and put it in my lounge. I’m loving those unguarded gears flying round at several hundred rpm.

Off to mutter words like “Leadscrew”, “Swarf” and “Backlash” for a few hours now.
