Spent on our bike[!] This time one of the exhaust had com clean apart on our FZX looks like it had rusted at the join. So this affy was out there with exhaust paste and a sleeve jubilee clip to try and fix it temporarily until we can afford to replace exhaust, stoney broke at the mo! Will find out tomorrow if I’ve managed to fix it! It better bloomin work cause I’ve hurt my back now[!]
September 5, 2006 at 10:03 am #51188imperialdataKeymasterThere’s a lot of cars and bikes out there running with Budweiser cans, jubilee clips, gun-gum and the like. Think most people I know have done this at some stage iin their biking history (myself included) until the pay cheque comes in. You won’t be the last Carmy!

Your bike is nackard and it keeps insisting on staying that way… surely for the money you could just sell it and get another one?
September 6, 2006 at 12:13 am #51191RadarModeratorI had to do similar things with the exhaust system on my FZ750 that I ran for 9 years between 1991 and 2000
The silencers rotted out, but I could not afford to replace them. So I had a local sheet metal company, run by a friendly biker, make up some Stainless Steel slip over covers. This combined with a bit of careful sealant got the FZ through several MOTs before I could finally afford a new 4 into 1 exhaust.
Levi, older bikes will need more care than a newer machine, this does not render them useless bikes. In fact carefully maintaining and improving a machine over time can be a very satisfying way of building a rapour with your machine.
BC the FZX looks to be a good machine, stick with it, its sounds like you and Dave are enjoying your biking comeback!September 6, 2006 at 5:48 pm #51192barmy_carmyParticipantLev can understand what yer saying lol! But a 6 speed FZX is very hard to come by, and when our beast is going, he runs like a dream, Like Radar said because of age of bike there are things that need replacing[] As with all bikes in time.
Radar I did put a metal sleeve on with Jubilee clip attached, I also sealed it with exhaust paste! has worked a treat![] I have now sprayed it all black so that it doesn’t look untidy[^]
Works I’ve personally done to date :- fix fan on bike and a new radiator[^] Fix exhaust[^] rear indicator was hanging down Have now metal glued it as the bracket had broken, help fit shocks[^] Help put headlight in[^] There was something else but I cant remember! Not bad for a woman eh?[:p][]

Fair enough then! just wondered whySeptember 9, 2006 at 11:32 pm #51194LexParticipantFZX is a good bike. Good combination of a modern engine in a real BIKE. At least it doesn’t look like a kids toy like most of the junk on sale now
