Not content with buying my FZ, he has now got himself a non-running Honda CB100N as a project:
He wasted little time stripping the poor thing back to its’ underwear…
He takes his CBT a week Monday….

August 2, 2009 at 6:52 pm #58981BigBenParticipanta little bit different, would be amusing with a bigger engine…say a 650 single. i like the number plate in the first picture

(second photo) :o) So I spent the next hour taking stock of what was there and what was missing. Some (almost right sized) bolts later and you have the first picture Radar posted.
Not easy doing a jigsaw puzzle without the box lid, but a bit of fun.I’ve got Radar’s Manual now (thanks) and I think most of it is there. I need the top off the carb, I’ve ordered a new ingition barrel and battery and got a new bottom end gasket kit. The engine’s seized but it came as a “project” with a second engine and Gearbox which aren’t seized.
Will probably cost me the same as a “runner” when its back together but I will have learned something about bikes on the way.
I’ll post again when I’ve had time to work on the seized engine and find out what’s what.
Cheers

October 3, 2009 at 5:29 pm #58985mecanicParticipantRight, done some more work on the engine, good news, it wasn’t seized.
Worked through the electrics and got a spark. Fitted another Carb and got a wet plug…looking good.Still won’t fire. Was always taught on outboard engines you need Spark fuel and compression, so loan of a compression tester later (cheers AF)… No compression.
Looked at the spare engine and built it up with cardboard gaskets, not brilliant but showing some compression. Might as well strip down the original engine and have a look befor I use the new gaskets on the spare engine.
Half an hour later…bingo a bent valve in the head, explains zero compression. Piston and cylinder look quite good.
Swapped the head off the spare engine and got 8.5 to 10 bar compression.
Bolted the engine back in the frame but it still wouldn’t fire, I’ll have to recheck the ignition and fuel and learn how to set up a carb propperly. Haven’t suss’d posting pictures so can’t show a photo yet. Anyway time for a brew and a ride on the NSR.

Enjoy the first ride on the NSR??

Carb still not set up properly yet but I’m fairly sure I got a cough out of it sunday evening. (only one and it was very faint but it’s a start)[][]Mecanic
