Biaggi blames Honda for absence
Biaggi finished fifth in the 2006 MotoGP championship
Italian Max Biaggi has criticised Honda after missing out on a ride in this year’s MotoGP championship.
“I have been put in this terrible situation by Honda and therefore I won’t participate in the 2006 MotoGP championship,” Biaggi told his website. The 34-year-old has been replaced by 20-year-old Spanish sensation Dani Pedrosa at the Repsol Honda team.
Biaggi said he was now looking at world superbikes and has held contract talks with Kawasaki.
“I have always appreciated and followed this championship (superbikes),” said the four-time 250cc champion.
“I also have a few friends there and they have all my respect. So I am considering this opportunity as a very good one.
“The difficulties grow as time passes though, in light of the fact that since 15 December we have been trying to reach an agreement with Kawasaki.
“And if we were to add two more wheels, we could do something completely different, and all things considered maybe that wouldn’t be a bad idea.”
Biaggi had a frustrating season last year with the factory Repsol Honda team, finishing fifth in the championship, with two second-place finishes his best results.
