Kawasaki Racing have suffered an unfortunate setback whilst travelling from Barcelona, scene of last week’s MotoGP Official Test, to the Circuito de Jerez for the final preseason gathering.

One of the Japanese team’s lorries suffered an accident near Valencia this morning, caused by ferocious winds on the Spanish roads. Thankfully the only physical damage was a foot injury to the driver of the vehicle. The team’s preparations have been delayed by the incident, and it may have a knock-on effect on their preseason-closing Test.

“The lorry carries a lot of parts, and also our bikes. We’re doing everything possible in order to arrive at Jerez on time. We are confident that we can begin testing this Friday, but there is still the possibility that it could be a Saturday start” explained Team Manager Harald Eckl.

Barring any further setbacks, Eckl still has high hopes for the tests, which are the final opportunity for the Kawasaki team to fine-tune their 2006 prototype.

“After the tests in Sepang and Phillip Island -and with Bridgestone’s support- Kawasaki Racing have done a great job improving the bike, as was shown in the results from Catalunya. We are under the impression that we will be able to have a good test this weekend as well.”

“Kawasaki is a young team in MotoGP terms, but we carry on improving little-by little, and our good work is starting to be reflected in the results.”
