Joey Dunlop’s TT winning outfit could sell for £20,000 (BBC)

An outfit worn by the most successful man in Isle of Man TT history, Joey Dunlop, is expected to make about £20,000 at auction on Monday.

The Northern Irish rider wore the leathers, boots, gloves and trademark yellow helmet during his 23rd TT victory in the 1998 Lightweight race.
It was the first time Dunlop, who won 26 TT races, lapped the Mountain Course at an average speed above 100mph.

The complete outfit has a pre-sale estimate of £15,000 to £20,000.

Dunlop died at a race in Estonia in July 2000 at the age of 48, weeks after completing a hat-trick of wins on the Isle of Man.
In a remarkable career the Ballymoney man claimed 26 TT wins – six more than Morecambe’s John McGuinness, who is still racing and won this year’s Senior event.
His brother Robert, who died in 2008, also won five TT victories and at this year’s event his nephew Michael won four solo victories, taking his tally to seven.
A spokesman for Sotherby’s said it was “incredibly rare” to see a complete outfit worn by the “sporting great”.
The outfit was used to model a statue of the TT star which now stands at the Bungalow on the Isle of Man TT course.
The outfit will be sold by Graham Budd Auctions at Sotheby’s New Bond Street in London on Monday.
