The TT circuit consists of about 40 miles of public road, on which competitors can reach speeds of around 200 mph. Only a few women each year take on the challenge.
Maria Costello is the only female solo competitor at TT2014. The 40-year-old from Northampton says: “I’ve broken a few bones here. Road racing gives you the best feeling and the worst nerves in the world. I love it.”
Hayley Jayne Capewell, 19, is one of the youngest ever female competitors: “People think I’m crazy when they hear what I do.”
Racing for TT 2014 concludes with Senior Race Day, 6 June.
