February 10, 2005 at 6:56 pm #22842GSX RatParticipantalright mate, what do you mean by “its on the way out” Is this definate or is it just running rough or intermittantly? Lot of problems with these are the coils as they collect water due to the position of them. If this is the case, get some silicone based grease, rub it all over the coils and ht leads – sorted!
Luckily, the 600 and 750f are pretty underrated so spares are reasonably priced. You sould be able to get a new unit off ebay for less than fifty quid, and there’s a guy on there selling aftermarket systems for the gsx range for, i think it was £89 – less than hundred anyway – although you do have to fit new pickups – i’ll see if i can find a link for you.

Check the air flow round the cdi unit, as if it overheats it can go tits up, check the multiplug from the pickups to the cdi – pull the plug off, spray wd into ti to clean and make sure you push it back tight. Water proof the coils and leads, either with wd or silicone grease, check the plug caps aren’t coming loose from the leads and lastly check the plug gaps. Then and only then lay out for a new unit!
BTW – the ebay guy sells 2 versions, sounds like he was trying to flog you the expensive one…I slept with faith and found a corpse in my arms on awakening; I drank and danced all night with doubt and found her a virgin in the morning.
