Riding along and get a big bang like a backfire, all electrics die, no lights no horn no switches, checked all fuses and main fuse all ok take off tank and no obvious sign of a short, but still no electrics, what should I check?

Ignition switch springs to mind. You need to check for voltage in and out of it. No neutral/oil light etc points to the switch if the main fuse is OK. A backfire will happen if there is unburnt fuel in the combustion chamber which suddenly ignites, this often points to a bad contact somewhere and if all electrics die the switch is a prime suspect.

Get a wiring diagram and trace the 12 volt feed to and from the switch.

I used to play with the kill switch while riding to get a nice backfire. I have grown up a bit since…..
