What a mad, mad bike, in MCN this week !
I thought that the V8 Boss Hoss I rode was insane, but the firm’s flagship is about to become the 580bhp V10 Dodge Viper-engined monster shown for the first time to the British press.
580bhp (and even more in lbs/ft) and a 2-speed automatic transmission. 125 mph in first gear and a theoretical 250 mph in second means ridiculously relaxed highway cruising, with 100mph at just 2000 rpm.

£87,000.
December 11, 2005 at 11:08 am #38784katanaParticipantDodge built a concept bike a few years back with the Viper engine called the Tomahawk. It had 4 wheels though?

December 11, 2005 at 1:43 pm #38785imperialdataKeymasterDoesn’t look daft at all!
No problems falling of the sidestand with 4 wheels though. Actually, 4 wheels and a car engine, doesn’t that make it a ……

December 11, 2005 at 8:46 pm #38786GSXR1000ParticipantThat was never designed to be ridden though!
December 11, 2005 at 8:53 pm #38787sidParticipantwhats this guy doing then
life sucks get used to it
December 12, 2005 at 7:40 am #38788GSXR1000ParticipantDemonstrating that you can, in fact, sit on the thing whilst it is moving.
If you read up about it, the bike was never designed to be ridden on the highway.
December 12, 2005 at 7:41 am #38789GSXR1000ParticipantThe Boss Hoss 502 which I had a go on was difficult enough to ride, but was a Ducati 999R by comparison with that thing!

With the technology that went into it I would think it handles better than the Boss Hoss, the BS is a conventional motorcycle with a small block V8 slotted in, the Tomahawk was built round the V10…..
Designers and builders quotes….
“Is it rideable? Yes. We gave that assignment to the company that built it – RM Motorsports. RM Motorsports builds and restores historic race cars for every kind of motorsport.
The bike has to run, lean, steer, stop, everything.“Granted, it handles more like a car most likely than a motorcycle, but handle it does…
“The steering is manual, believe it or not. It’s not as heavy as you’d expect. The clutch is heavy, to handle the horsepower, but the steering is perfectly fine; It would be like driving an old-time sports car without power-assisted steering. It’s got that kind of a feel.
The steering is designed to have four tires in contact with the road at all times. If you put your open hands out in front of you, palms facing each other, two inches apart and then twist them parallel, your little finger will always stay on the table. That’s the principle, design and geometry of it.“

December 12, 2005 at 5:36 pm #38792GSXR1000ParticipantThe 502 has a BIG BLOCK engine, Gix, not a small block. The 502 is the cubic inches (as well as the power, as it happens).
The Tomahawk was hopeless when tried as a road bike and was not sold to the public for highway use as far as i am aware.December 12, 2005 at 6:29 pm #38793GixParticipantquote:

Regarding the quotes about how the tomahawk handles, well as I have never ridden one (and yes there are now more than one), I can only quote what testers and the creators and builders say, unless of course you have the experience of having ridden one of the tomahawk motorcycles?

Erm, no it isn’t!How can 8229cc be considered small as car engines go? If you honestly think that, then tell me say, 10 production car engines which are bigger in capacity than that. I am very interested in what you can come up with.
My current car, a 2005, is 5967cc V8 and that is pretty big in itself!I have just done a Google search for the Tomahawk and it is described as merely ‘rolling sculpture’ on many pages and even the company admit it is not street legal.
December 12, 2005 at 7:23 pm #38795GSXR1000ParticipantSorry, just to make it clear, that i have never ridden a Tomahawk.
I have though, gotten to drive a lot of specialist cars and i have ridden a lot of strange bikes because when i lived in California i was often involved with the S.E.M.A. (trade only) motor show, held each November in Las Vegas. That place sees the latest, greatest and most futuristic wheeld devices on Earth and it was alwyas fun to be behind the scenes at S.E.M.A.December 12, 2005 at 7:27 pm #38796GixParticipantI wasnt talking of capacity cos thats pretty damn big even I know that LOL. I was talking of physical size. Christ the bettson V8 has huge block V8 compared to the Boss Hoss!
Try googling for the testers information. Yes, to start it was a rolling sculpture, what do expect? It was a CONCEPT BIKE! It doesnt matter if its street legal or not, it still handes, had to as a concept, but whether it handles like a bike is another story, as already stated in my earlier reply.
The quotes above were from an american review magazine site ( https://www.motorcyclenewswire.com/news.cfm?newsid=2140 ), take a look around…
