I recently purchased and fitted a Quill T3 performance exhaust to my Kawasaki 636, underseat model.
The original can had a flap for build up realese, the new can does not, so I removed it and even isolated it.
I now find a red light on all the time and it concerns me incase I may be doing damage to the engine. Someone said it may need remapping, and someone else said it could be something small like re earthing or something.
I could really use some advice on this, so if anyone has come across this problem before, please help me out here.June 22, 2008 at 5:50 pm #55676RadarModeratorMember GSF K6 has a 636 like yours, drop him a PM, he might be able to give you some guidance.
Also it might be worth emailing or calling Quill themselveshttps://www.quillexhausts.com/

June 22, 2008 at 8:06 pm #55678imperialdataKeymaster9 times out of 10 it’s an earthing problem. THere again, 84.38% of statistics are made up….
Questions (serious now):
1. Did you disturb any wires recently or while fitting the exhaust?
2. Does the warning light come on faint, flicker or is it on bright all the time?
3. Does the bike perform worse than before?
June 22, 2008 at 10:56 pm #55679Ninja ManiaParticipantAnswers as follows,
Q1.No wires were disturbed in anyway, I tried isolating the unit but only after the red light was on. It remained on too, so I conected it back up.
Q2.It looks to be bright all the time, straight from the ignition being turned on.
Q3It defo is performing better, much more resposive at high speed, and standing start speed has also got a lot better.
Thanks, imperialdata for showing interest, I am very gratefull, I wont be at ease till this problem is sorted out properlyJune 22, 2008 at 10:58 pm #55680Ninja ManiaParticipantJust to add, I have emailed Quill too, so hope to get some sort of advise tomorrow from them.

June 23, 2008 at 11:44 pm #55682GSF K1ParticipantHi guys.. I’m still on the road.. OK I KNOW this problem… you’re missing a bit!!!
When you disconnected the cabling from the exhaust valve servo, you should have a blanking plate which you fit onto the servo.. it fools the unit into thinking that its connected to the valve.
When you turn your ignition on, the servo swings from full deflection clockwise to full deflection counter-clockwise (or the other way..??).. and it knows roughly how far that movement should be for a perfectly healthy valve (ie not stuck).. YOURS will just keep going round as theres nothing to stop it.. hence the brains thinks theres something broken in the exhaust valve and flashes the FI light.
You should have a blanking plate of some form to put on it.. Akropovic provide one in their kit.hope that helps.

Thanks to everyone who help sort this out, sometimes alittle help goes a long way. Cheers.June 24, 2008 at 9:32 am #55684imperialdataKeymasterNice one GSF!
June 24, 2008 at 8:34 pm #55685GSF K1ParticipantIt makes a difference which way round the bracket goes on.. cos I got mine on wrong first time and thought WTF!!!!!!!

June 24, 2008 at 9:29 pm #55687Ninja ManiaParticipantIt would have made all the difference just to get some fitting instructions, hopefully no damage done tho.
